Acupressure treatments have taken the world by a storm. Something that can heal some of your major day-to-day health problems by just putting pressure on certain body points, almost sounds magical. It has been proven time and again by science that acupressure is actually a medical treatment. It can provide relief in any and every situation, and in a much healthier way than modern medicines.

Yoga expert Sunaina Rekhi spoke to Health Shots and suggested three acupressure points to deal with pain and stress.

What is acupressure?

Acupressure therapy is an ancient healing practice which combines with acupuncture or reflexology to find the trigger points. This is an alternative medicine technique which is based on the life energy that flows through our body. In this practice, you put physical pressure on your acupoints which helps in clearing blockages and increases blood circulation in our body.
Our lifestyles have taken a shape in a way that causes us to have body aches because of a desk job, have stress and anxiety because of work pressures or long working hours and feel low on energy because we don’t indulge in nutritious food and depend way too much on the outside food, which depletes our overall energy levels.

3 acupressure points to deal with these problems

  1. Union Valley

Applying pressure on this point helps you to shift your nervous system and clear the pain. This point is located in the webbing between your thumb and forefinger, more towards the bone of your forefinger. Use your other hand to put pressure on this point, with your thumb, for around 30 seconds to 1 minute. You can keep pressing it and even move your thumb in circular motions over this point and give it a good massage.

2. Chest

This pressure point is for clearing stress. In this age and time, there is hardly anyone who hasn’t been gripped by anxiety and stress, and here is a simple way of getting relief from it. When we are stressed, our breaths become very shallow, so it is important to relax our chest area during this time. Take your fingers, place them on your chest exactly at the centre of your sternum and start massaging in circular motions. You can do this for around 2-3 minutes.

Relieves stress.

3. Lower Back

Wouldn’t it be great to feel energized throughout the day without even having a single cup of coffee? Acupressure can do that for you in a natural and healthier way. To locate this point, trace your fingers from your belly button to your lower back. On the left and right of your lower back, just above your hips, you will find two points that feel tender on touch. Either massage these points or energize them by hitting lightly with closed fists. This will trigger your adrenaline gland to give you more vitality.

So, next time you feel stressed, instead of popping pills that will have umpteen side-effects on your health, try out these acupressure techniques.
