Shilpa Shetty nails the 20 kg weighted squat, says it’s no mean feat

Shilpa Shetty Kundra is known for not just her acting and dancing chops, but also her fitness prowess. She often takes to Instagram to share her fitness tips and workout sessions. Recently, she shared a motivational video of herself doing weighted squats with a 20-kg dumbbell.

She wrote, “You don’t find will power, you create it! When you put your heart and mind to something, anything is possible. I’d been aiming to achieve this for a while now, and it has finally happened. It may look easy, but the 20-kg weighted squat is no mean feat!”

Shilpa, who keeps trying variations in her workout routine and had recently also given a shot to tribal squats, drew attention to how a weighted squat can help. She pointed out that it helps strengthen the:

  • Glutes
  • Thighs
  • Hamstring
  • Calves
  • Core
  • Knee joints
  • Lower back

“It also helps burn fat,” shared Shilpa, adding that it makes for a great start to the day and week.

Here’s how you can perform the exercise like Shilpa

Shilpa starts off by holding a 20-kg dumbbell in both her hands and bringing it close to her chest. She also uses a weighted plate to balance her stance.

Step 1: Standing with her feet shoulder-width apart with the dumbbell cupped in her hands, she bends her knees and pushes her hips back as if she is going to sit in a chair.

Step 2: When her thighs are parallel to the floor, she pauses and then pushes back up to her starting position.

This is a great exercise for your lower body, and also helps tone the abdominal area, improve posture, strengthen knees and joints. It ensures that adequate quantities of oxygen and blood flow around the lower body, thus helping to keep it supple and strong

Shilpa Shetty advocates disconnect to reconnect

Shilpa has also been one for maintaining a healthy balance for fitness and wellbeing. In another recent Instagram post, she talked about how it is important to be able to disconnect from the outside/digital world in order to reconnect with yourself. She said, “Only when you’re in tune with your own thoughts will you be able to align yourself with everything else externally. Offline is the new luxury. Disconnect and pamper yourself.”
