    Dr Mala Kaneria is a consultant, Infectious Diseases at Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre, Mumbai. She completed her MBBS from Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College and Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital (LTMMC and LTMGH, Sion Hospital) in 1990 and subsequently did MD in Internal Medicine, also from LTMMC and LTMGH in 1993. She joined Nair Hospital as faculty in 1994 and presently holds the designation of Professor and Unit Head at B. Y. L. Nair Charitable Hospital and TN Medical College AND Kasturba Hospital for Infectious Diseases. She has a wide experience in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases common to the tropics like Malaria, Leptospirosis, Dengue, Typhoid, Chikungunya and Tuberculosis. She has managed infections like hydatid disease, cysticercosis, amoebiasis, tropical eosinophilia and filariasis, besides rare bacterial and viral infections like Brucellosis, Ebstein Barr virus infections, etc. She also has immense experience in the treatment of opportunistic infections in HIV/AIDS, especially tuberculosis, both pulmonary and extrapulmonary. Dr. Mala is particularly interested in the diagnosis and management of patients with prolonged fevers of undetermined origin, vector borne diseases and tuberculosis, both pulmonary and extrapulmonary. She also has experience in the management of nosocomial infections and in the management of infections in specific subgroups like geriatric, diabetes, pregnancy and other immunocompromised states.
