Who doesn’t want to look gorgeous at a party or a wedding? Isn’t it incomplete without glowing skin? But getting glowing skin is not easy because along with the wedding season, it is also the winter season which can wreak havoc on your skin. This season typically snatches away all the moisture and makes your skin dull. So, taking care of your skin is a must if you really want to be a scene-stealer at the wedding!
Dr Blossom Kochhar, chairperson, Blossom Kochhar Group of Companies, reveals some skincare tips in a HealthShots podcast, Spill the Beauty, for every lady to follow before going to a party. These tips will help to get glowing skin and protect you against breakout!
Without further ado, let’s read those tips suggested by Dr Kochhar:
1. Drink a lot of water
Hydration is important for overall health, but it is very very important for skin because it protects skin from drying, says Dr Kochhar. Not just that, it helps to maintain a good pH balance in your skin, flush toxins, reduce wrinkles, prevent pimples, manage the moisture levels and improve the elasticity of the skin.
2. Eat green vegetables
A diet rich in nutrients helps to improve skin health as well. Include dark leafy greens because they’re rich in vitamins, minerals, and age fighting phytochemicals which can maintain a healthy glow on your skin.
3. Daily cleansing
Dr Kochhar says, “Daily cleansing is a secret of glowing and ageless skin.” The skin needs deep cleansing, especially if you’re doing this to get a glow on your face. During the winter, switch to a moisturising cleanser that can help to hydrate parched skin and support the skin’s barrier.
4. Moisturising oil
Maintaining skin moisture is really important for every skincare regimen, even for those with oily and combination skin types. Dr Kochhar suggests, “Apply moisturising oil on the face, neck and around the eyes in the morning and at night.” She adds, “Apply it especially after removing the makeup or cleansing the face to maintain the moisture levels.”
5. Face pack
So the next step to pamper your skin and to get the glow, try this DIY rose pack suggested by Dr Kochhar. Roses have antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, making them a perfect ingredient for skincare!
To prepare the rose face pack: Take a handful of rose petals (two roses), grind those petals into a paste with two tablespoons of milk, then add a teaspoon of honey if you want. Apply this paste on your face and neck properly. Leave it for 15 minutes, rinse it off, following with a moisturiser. You can apply this face pack twice a week for good results.
6. Full body care
The winter season tends to make the skin dry and can strip away the glow not just of your face, but of your body as well. And you can’t neglect body skincare. So, to maintain the body skincare apply a moisturiser on the parts which are prone to dryness like legs and hands, suggests Dr Kochhar. This will also make your skin smooth and soft.
Moisturisers help hydrate the skin and prevent water loss. Also, keep in mind that even if you may have oily skin, you need to moisturise your skin regularly. Dr Kochhar suggests using a moisturiser which contains vitamin E, amino acids, and hyaluronic acid creams instead of using harsh creams.
Avoid harsh exfoliation, otherwise it will dry your skin. Dr Kochhar says, “Don’t use any AHA, retinol, or any strong exfoliative during this time because they can strip away your skin cells, shine, and moisture. Use lactic acid instead. It helps improve the skin’s natural moisture factor, or the way the skin keeps itself hydrated. Plus, it improves signs of aging and stimulates collagen renewal, and can firm up your skin. Try exfoliation once a week if you have a common skin type and use twice a week if you have oily skin.”
9. Wear sunscreen
The most important step – wear sunscreen every single day! Even in winter, wearing sunscreen is a necessity. Sunscreen protects against sunburns, pigmentation, premature ageing, and boosts the brightness of the skin, says Dr Kochhar.
Moreover, follow these effective skincare routines:
- Cleanse your face twice a day; clean it once with cream or oil and use another face wash
- Wash your face with cold water
- Apply toner, nonalcoholic toner
- Apply serum, which has hyaluronic acid or vitamin C
- Wait for a minute and apply a moisturiser
- Don’t forget to apply sunscreen when you’re going out
- Don’t over-exfoliate your skin
- Last but not the least, sleep well
