The fundamentals to take care of your skin are very simple. I call it the ABC of skin, where A is about using a good cleanser, B includes a good moisturizer, and the last step C is to make sun block a part of your routine. It is better to use fewer products, but use them consistently, as opposed to using a lot of products and then doing nothing at all.

So now that you know the basics, it’s time to dive into some skincare essentials that will help you flaunt your best skin in 2021. Are you all set?

Here are some of the resolutions you need to abide by this year:
1. Use a cleanser that suits your skin

It’s very important to use a good face wash that suits your skin. If you have dry skin, then I would recommend you use a mild cleanser meant for your skin type, so that it doesn’t dehydrate your skin too much. If you have oily skin, use a cleanser that has glycolic or salicylic acid, so that it removes excess oil from your skin, but in a gentle manner.

2. Choose your moisturizer wisely

Everyone needs to use a moisturizer, because it helps you with good skin. A lot of people believe that moisturizers are not required for people with oily skin, which is not true. If you have dry skin, you must use a slightly heavy moisturizer, but if you have oily skin, then using a mild moisturizer is a good idea. If you have combination skin, it is important to moisturize the areas that are typically very dry. You can probably avoid using a moisturiser in areas that are a little too oily.

Also, watch:

3. Never skip the sunscreen

Using a good sunscreen is mandatory, and the best thing that you could do for your skin. But remember using it correctly is equally important! Use it 20 minutes before stepping out in the sun. You may have to reapply it after every two – three hours. For the Indian skin tone, an SPF of around 30 or above is more than enough. A lot of people feel that sunblock makes their skin oily. If you feel the same, then it’s best to use a sunblock that has a matte finish or dab a little bit of talcum powder on the face to soak up the excess moisture. You should always remember to wear sunscreen, even when it’s cloudy outside or even indoors!

4. Consult your dermatologist for a night cream that suits you

It is always good to use a night cream, but using one after consulting your dermatologist is a better idea. This is because a lot of night creams are thick and heavy, and may cause acne, depending on your skin type. If you suffer from sensitive and acne-prone skin, then use a night cream only after consulting a dermatologist. Using a nice vitamin C serum, lotion or cream at bedtime would be a good idea, as it gives your skin a good glow. But try and use a vitamin C cream instead of a serum, so that it nourishes the skin from within as well.

5. Don’t ignore your lips

Using a lip moisturizer would be a good idea. During the winter season, our lips tend to get really dry, because of which we sometimes develop the habit of licking our lips. This can lead to dermatitis around the mouth. In order to avoid this, even using a basic moisturizer like Vaseline would help.

6. Clean your makeup brushes

Make sure you clean your makeup brushes regularly to avoid a buildup of makeup residue and bacteria. You can purchase a makeup brush cleaner from a drug or beauty store, or you can simply use a shampoo and conditioner to clean your brushes, as you do with your hair. Clean brushes guarantee a super smooth and even makeup application every time.

7. Always, always remove your makeup

It is very important that you remove your makeup, no matter where you are, before you go to bed, or if you have been wearing it for a very long time. It is important that you give time to your skin to breathe. Use a good micellar water makeup cleanser, and remove all the layers. Once that’s done, use a face wash and then follow it up with a good moisturiser.

8. Let your skin breathe

If you are someone who needs to wear makeup for very long hours, then it would be a good idea to intermittently give your skin a little breathing time. Removing your makeup for an hour or two, and then reapplying it again helps your skin breathe a little.

9. Take your vitamins regularly

It is also a good idea to take multivitamins and antioxidants for healthy skin. Not getting enough sun causes a dip in your vitamin D levels, so adding vitamin C and D to your oral supplements, in addition to omega fatty acid supplements, and any other antioxidants would help.
