You should avoid these ingredients for skincare during pregnancy:

1. Retinoids:

Both topical (creams, serums), as well as oral (isotretinoin) retinoids, must be avoided. They can cause a risk to the fetus and must be completely avoided at all costs. Yes, retinoids they may cause birth defects in babies, so be very careful.

2. Hydroquinone:

This is an ingredient found in skin lightening creams. While there are not enough studies to prove its risk, it is still better to avoid it at all costs. It may lead to an increased risk of malformations or other similar issues, as a consequence of its exposure.

3. Arbutin:

Alpha arbutin is also an ingredient that is found in skin lightening agents. It is a derivative of hydroquinone, which we already know is not safe during pregnancy. Even if you want to use brighteners, kojic, or glycolic acid are considered safer for pregnant people.
