Our skin is the first and foremost thing that reflects our age. If we take proper care of it, we can achieve a healthy glow. But guess what? It can be the complete opposite, if you neglect it. Yes, it’s true — trouble strikes, as soon as you step into your 30s; that’s because this is the time when your skin needs maximum care. But worry not, as always we are here to help you. This time around, we have some dermat-approved skin care tips that can make you look flawless, way beyond your 30s.     

Here are some skin care tips to follow to postpone the signs of ageing
  • Amp up sun protection: This is the basic foundation of any skin care routine. Irrespective of your age or how busy you are, sun protection is a must. Dermatologists recommend you wear sunscreen with SPF 30 and above, both indoors and outdoors. Cover up your skin when outdoors (gloves and hands and eyewear), and avoid stepping out between 10 am to 3 pm. 
  • Wash with a gentle cleanser that has a low pH to remove the pollutants and oils from the skin.
  • Pat the serum on your skin: Opt for ingredients like retinol and vitamin C to fight the telltale signs of ageing. 
  • Moisturize without fail daily and every time you wash your face or hands. One of the earliest signs of ageing is dryness, but the good news is moisturizers can fix the problem easily. Look for ingredients like glycerine and hyaluronic acid in your moisturizer.

  • Exfoliate once a week: It will help you get rid of the dead skin cells on your face. 
  • Get enough sleep, as it will give your body the time to refresh and renew itself.
  • Eat healthy and drink enough water.
  • Protect your skin from trauma: Switch your pillow cover to silk or satin to avoid deep sleep wrinkles. Also, stop rubbing, tugging or pinching your face, when washing or applying skin care products.
Apart from these simple skin care tips, you also need to follow some anti-ageing home remedies in your 30s
1. For pigmentation and discoloration

You need:

  • 2 tbsp almond powder
  • 1 tsp dried orange peel powder
  • 1 tsp oatmeal
  • 1 tsp grated potato
  • ½ tsp lemon juice
  • Some full-fat cream milk

Mix all the ingredients, except the milk. Blend well and then add just enough milk to make a thick paste. Apply on the face and neck and let it sit till it is semi-dry. Wet your hands with some more milk and gently rub the mask off in circular motions. 

“Almonds and oranges are rich in vitamin C, E, and retinol. They help exfoliate and negate the effects of sun, while oatmeal nourishes the skin, and potato brightens it,” suggests Dr Rinky Kapoor, consultant dermatologist, cosmetic dermatologist & dermato-surgeon, The Esthetic Clinics.

2. For even skin tone

You need:

  • 3-4 strands of saffron soaked overnight in two teaspoons of water 
  • 1 tsp milk
  • A pinch of sugar
  • 3-4 drops of coconut oil

Mix all the ingredients well. Now, take a piece of bread and dip it in this mix. Use the bread to apply the pack on your face. Let it sit for 15 minutes and wash with cold water. Use this two to three times a week. 

“Saffron infuses the skin with iron, potassium, calcium, zing, copper, and other vitamins such as A, C, and niacin. This will also help in increasing blood circulation in the skin, resulting in less dark circles and fine lines,” suggests Dr Kapoor. 

3. For neck wrinkles

You need:

  • ½ cup fresh pineapple juice

Massage the juice on your neck in an upward direction, leaving it on for five minutes before washing. Pineapple is full of antioxidants and works like a charm on the thin skin of the neck. It also helps to increase the collagen production and improves skin elasticity. 

4. For early wrinkles

You need:

  • 2 tsp of ground turmeric
  • ¼ cup of sugarcane juice

Mix and apply it on the face, neck, and hands. Let it sit for a few minutes and gently scrub it off. Turmeric heals the skin and improves collagen production, while sugarcane exfoliates the skin.

5. For the forehead lines

You need:

  • A few drops of jojoba oil

Massage the oil on your forehead in an upward motion for five minutes. Relax for 20 minutes and wash the oil with lukewarm water. Jojoba oil acts as a liquid wax, which penetrates into the deep layers of the skin. It is also high in vitamin E and prevents free radical damage. 

“If you see any persistent problem on your skin, make sure to consult a dermatologist for the correct treatment, before using any home remedies or new products,” concludes Dr Kapoor.
