Being a homemaker isn’t as easy as it sounds. After all, managing the house, taking care of every member, and cooking in the kitchen–apart from solving several other unexpected problems that might spring up every day–isn’t child’s play.

Unfortunately, this thankless job can leave you with absolutely no time for yourself, and well, for your skin. Worse still, if you’re trying to run a house while managing work. It can leave you with absolutely no time or energy to do anything for your skin.

But as they say, you need to MAKE time for the things you care for and obviously, we all care deeply about our skin.

So, I found a simple and absolutely handy way to pamper my skin: I started using kitchen ingredients on my skin while cooking. Here’s how I went about it.

  1. Skin brightening veggies FTW
From tomato peels to potato slices—I admit to have unabashedly exploited the skin-lightening powers of these ingredients. After all, we all know how tomatoes and potatoes can help remove tan, fight pigmentation, and reduce dark circles. I simply massage them on my face for a couple of minutes and then rinse my face with water.
  2. When life gave me lemons, I began masking
The most beneficial ingredient for me has been lemon juice. Not only does it help exfoliate the skin naturally, but it also fights blemishes. But, applying lemon juice on the face directly isn’t advisable–especially if you have sensitive skin. I dilute lemon juice with rose water (though you can even use water) to make a toner.
  3. Tight skin with breakfast staples
I can’t stress enough on the skin-tightening and brightening effect of using banana or papaya peels. You’ve got to try it to believe it. Once again, the key is rubbing the peels on your skin gently for a few minutes.
  4. Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise
Brightening, tightening, and exfoliating is alright–but your skin needs hydration too. For this, I applied yogurt on my face liberally and let my skin soak in its benefits for about 15 minutes. If you have dry skin, you can use milk instead.

These remedies have helped me walk out of the kitchen with a fresh and glowing face instead of a dull, exhausted one. Yes, you can thank me later–but don’t forget to leave your thoughts about these hacks in the comments section below RN.
