If you have been shelling out a fortune to buy skincare products, we can feel your pain. While beauty is inexpensive, maintaining it is what burns a hole through your pockets. Especially, when raving reviews about luxury creams, serums and beauty elixirs are making rounds on the internet. Someone who values money only finds comfort in affordable and easy skincare to get good skin.
But, do you know there are several ‘no-money involved’ ways to get the skin of your dreams. No, we are not daydreaming!
Dr Nivedita Dadu, a Renowned Dermatologist, tells HealthShots about some inexpensive ways to achieve a healthy skin appearance.
“Only a few changes in your daily routine and investing in the right skincare can give you flawless skin in no time. Our skin needs extra attention and hydration. But not everything involves money.” says Dr Dadu, the Founder and Chairman of Dr. Nivedita Dadu’s Dermatology Clinic.
As inexpensive as it sounds, changing the bedsheet and pillowcase regularly can make a lot of difference on your skin. Dirty sheets and pillowcases carry a lot of dirt like oil, bacteria and dead skin cells from the face and hair. Yikes! Dr. Dadu suggests changing the pillowcase once a week to avoid any bacteria spreading onto the face. This step will ensure you don’t breakout often and risk acne.
Your sleeping position can also make a lot of difference to your skin. Make sure you sleep on your back to get that ‘I woke up like this’ glow in the morning. This way, you won’t squish your face into the bed or pillow at night. Dr Dadu warns that sleeping on your face can lead to acne and even wrinkles. Sleep on your back, sleeping beauty!
When we exercise, sweat and harmful toxins are released out of our bodies in the form of sweat. Regular exercise helps in a smooth flow of nutrients in the body and an increase in blood circulation. If you workout, you must know what we are talking about. The flushed cheeks and radiant shine on the skin you get after a rigorous set of exercise is unbeatable. So, don’t waste that gym membership, lazy potatoes!
A good sleep routine is directly proportional to good skin. You sleep, you don’t spend a dime on your skincare and still wake up looking snazzy! What’s there to lose? Stressing on the same, Dr Dadu says, “Just like the entire body, it is during your sleep when major functions like repair and growth occur. Insufficient sleep leads to dark circles, tired-looking skin, wrinkles. Get adequate sleep for at least 7-8 hours to look and feel your best.”
Well, you must know this already if you’re not living in a cave! Not to gross you out, but it is a fact that your phone may be more dirty than your toilet bowl. So, keep that unhygienic thing away from your face until it’s cleaned with a rubbing alcohol wipe. This step can help you get rid of any pesky pimples and prevent you from harming your skin externally.
In addition to these tips, Dr Dadu advocates the importance of a balanced diet. “Maintaining a balanced diet is a prerequisite for healthy and happy skin. Make Green leafy vegetables, fibrous fruits rich in Vitamin C, and nuts a part of your diet to see the visible difference.”
If you’re someone who wears makeup, it is the biggest skincare sin to sleep with makeup on. Don’t do it unless you’re an Indian bahu from soap operas and sleep with a full face of makeup! Clean your face thoroughly if you don’t wish clogged pores and pesky pimples to say hello to you in the morning!
