Oh, the bane of dark circles! Trust us, they are quite a common issue, and there’s nothing serious about it. But they can make you look stressed, tired and old. Do you also have dark circles underneath your eyes? If yes, that’s quite frustrating!

To be precise, these are the common causes of dark circles:

  1. Sun exposure can create dark circles under the eyes by increasing the melanin content.
  2. The area under the eyes can appear darker due to pigmentation or hyperpigmentation.
  3. Dark circles under your eyes may also appear over time if you frequently rub them, as rubbing causes blood vessels in the eyelids to break and leak blood. As a result, it creates dark circles.
  4. Sleep deprivation is another cause of dark circles.
  5. The deficiency of vitamins, including vitamin B12, E, K, and D have been associated with dark circles.
  6. Dark circles can be hereditary as well.

There are several ways to treat these dark circles. So fret not, here’s what you can do!

Here’s a DIY serum to reduce dark circles

Ingredients that you need to make this serum:

  • Aloe vera gel
  • 2 tbsp of rose water
  • 2 vitamin E capsules

  • 2 drops of sweet almond oil
  • 2 drops of helichrysum essential oil
  • Serum bottle with dropper

Why this works:

You can find several ingredients to use in your eye serum, but aloe vera is a great choice among them. It has cooling properties that help to de-puff eyes and reduce dark circles. Mixing it with rose water can refresh your skin and help calm tired eyes. Castor oil nourishes the area around the eyes and keeps it well hydrated. Almond oil, on the other hand, helps lighten the dark circles and brightens the skin. Lastly, vitamin E can do wonders to get rid of dark circles

Here’s how you can create the under eye serum

1. Take one tablespoon of aloe vera gel in a bowl and mix it with rose water. Mix well to ensure that lumps are removed.

2. Once the ingredients are completely dissolved, slit the vitamin E capsules and stir the concoction well.

3. Now take all other ingredients: castor oil, sweet almond oil, and helichrysum essential oil and mix it well for the last time, until it becomes smooth.

Note: Ensure it doesn’t have any lumps, otherwise it can irritate your eyes.

4. Once all the ingredients have been dissolved and mixed well, transfer the serum to a clean serum bottle and store it in the fridge for a day. Post that, your eye serum is ready to be used.

Note: Place it in the refrigerator so that it doesn’t get spoiled.

Applying the serum

Make sure you apply it after washing your face, so do that first.

  • The best time to apply it is at night, so start by cleaning your face.
  • Use only 2-3 drops for one application.
  • Now, apply it under your eyes.
  • Slowly massage the serum around your eye in a tapping motion with your fingertips. Do not rub the serum excessively so that it can be absorbed by your skin.
  • Leave the serum overnight, and when you wake up the next morning, wash it off with normal water.

Remember this serum has a short shelf life. It can be used for a maximum of 15 days. After that, you have to make a fresh batch. Don’t wait for more, prepare your own eye serum for a face free from dark circles.
