1. Vitamin C

Vitamin C is an excellent ingredient to get rid of dark spots on the skin. Serums or creams infused with vitamin C are effective in treating dark spots and hyperpigmentation on the face. It gradually lightens the skin by reducing the amount of melanin production. A high amount of melanin leads to dark spots and vitamin C’s antioxidant properties help to combat all sorts of dark spots caused by sun damage or acne. Include a vitamin C serum or a creme in your daily skincare routine and follow it up with sunscreen. Since vitamin C can make your skin photosensitive, sunscreen is a must. If you are a beginner 5-10 percent of vitamin C is the ideal amount to start with.

2. Niacinamide

Niacinamide is made with skin-lightening components that are instrumental in removing dark spots. Applying niacinamide-infused serum or cream is one of the best and most effective treatments to treat dark spots. Niacinamide boosts the skin’s collagen production and also helps in the growth of ceramides on the skin. It acts as a natural barrier for the skin protecting it from sun damage and hyperpigmentation. Besides, it aids in keeping the skin healthy and radiant. Usually, it takes 4-6 weeks to show results on the skin. Do not forget to use sunscreen if you are using niacinamide.

3. Licorice

Another magical ingredient to treat dark spots or any sort of discoloration is to use licorice. Licorice extract has been an age-old favourite to treat dark spots. The compound present in licorice, called liquiritin, helps to reduce excess melanin production that can cause skin darkening. It is effective in clearing out dark spots and it prevents further hyperpigmentation too. Licorice extract helps to achieve an even skin tone.
