Skin care isn’t as hard as we make it out to be. In fact, Ayurveda is full of some really cool tricks that can literally reverse skin ageing and eliminate other skin problems you are dealing with. All you have to do is be a little diligent with the remedies. And one Ayurvedic skincare hack is ubtan. To be honest, it is one of the best natural skin treatments you can ever find.

Ubtan is basically prepared by mixing herbs and essential oils. It is considered as the perfect cleansing agent because it is known to nurture your skin. It brings back that gleaming glow instantly that was lost due to chemical-laden products and pollution.

The best thing is that you can use ubtan in any season with zero side-effects

Here are four benefits of ubtan, as suggested by Dr Dr Nivedita Dadu, a celebrity dermatologist and founder of Dr Nivedita Dadu’s Dermatology Clinic:

1. Ubtan helps get rid of tan

If despite wearing sunscreen, you’ve been getting tanned–then here’s help. All the ingredients used in ubtan have cooling properties that help relieve the skin of excess heat and tan. Ubtan removes dead skin and reveals soft and supple skin. It also gives you toned skin, thanks to sandalwood powder or chandan that is known to act as a natural astringent. When used regularly on the skin, ubtan tightens the pores and gives skin a firm and youthful look.

2. It can prevent acne and scarring

The anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties in ubtan inhibit the growth of bacteria. Thus keeping the skin away from acne, spots, and pimples.

3. Ubtan is a natural way to reduce facial hair

Ubtan is said to weaken the hair from the root and reduce its growth. Always apply ubtan in circular motions to ensure reduced facial hair growth.

4. Delay the signs of ageing

Turmeric and sandalwood are the two main ingredients used in ubtan. Certain compounds in both these natural remedies help to delay wrinkles and fine lines. Turmeric is a super ingredient known for its anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, and anti-oxidative properties—and makes the skin appear more youthful by retaining the lost moisture from the skin and treating flaky-dry skin, which is a sign of aging.

Here are 3 ubtan recipes you can make at home

You can totally make ubtan at home. All you need is turmeric, gram flour (besan), sandalwood (chandan), rose water, and raw milk. We have three amazing ubtan recipes for you, so pick the one that suits your skin type and enjoy:

1. Oatmeal ubtan for dry skin

To make this ubtan, combine one tablespoon of sandalwood powder, one tablespoon of oatmeal, and 3 tablespoons of chickpea flour (besan) in a mixing bowl. Add half a tablespoon of neem powder, half a tablespoon of fennel powder, and a pinch of turmeric in it. After that add six to seven finely grounded almonds (preferably soaked overnight and peels removed). Take the desired quantity of the powder and make a paste by using water. For oily skin, use rose water to make the paste and for dry skin, use milk or yogurt.

2. Sandalwood ubtan for oily skin

To make ubtan for daily use, you’ll need 1 tablespoon sandalwood (chandan) powder, 2 tablespoon chickpea powder (besan), ½ tablespoon turmeric powder (haldi), and 2 tablespoons raw milk. Take a bowl, add all the dry ingredients and mix well, then add milk. Mix all the ingredients to make a paste that is neither too thick nor too runny or lumpy. The consistency should be enough to spread over your skin smoothly.

3. Almond ubtan for super sensitive skin

Grind eight to nine almonds (preferably soaked overnight and peels removed) and grind them to get an almond powder. Now, combine them with a cup of gram flour. Add one tablespoon of neem powder, a pinch of turmeric and about half a tablespoon of fennel powder. Mix all the ingredients and make a thick paste by adding rose water.

So ladies, coat yourself in the goodness of ubtan and revive the goddess in you.
