Wedding preparation takes a lot of time, as you need to find the right traditional wear, matching jewellery, make-up and hair experts, and much more. Some even start preparing months before the D-Day. So, why should you wait go for beauty treatments just before the wedding? When it comes to skincare tips for brides or some of the hair treatments, it’s better to start months before your wedding day too. So, read on to know which all beauty treatments all the brides-to-be should avoid.

Trying out a new dish, clothes or a beauty trend is a good thing, but not around your wedding day. While you might know that eating an eggplant will cause an allergic reaction, you can’t be too sure about which ingredient used in a beauty treatment will have a bad affect on your skin or hair. After all, not everyone is well-versed in it.

To know which all beauty treatments brides-to-be should avoid before wedding, Health Shots consulted Dr Ritupurna Dash, dermatologist and laser specialist at DASH Dermatology, Noida, and consultant at Max Super Specialty Hospital, Vaishali.

Skin bleaching can cause itching

You might think of bleaching to lighten your skin or provide an even skin colour, but bleach has hydrogen peroxide, which can cause redness, itching and irritation. Dr Dash suggested not to get bleaching done, especially before a Haldi ceremony as it might add to skin problems. Instead, she said that dermaplaning is a safer alternative at the last minute. It not only removes peach fuzz, but also dead skin as well as debris.

Stay away from hair removal methods

You want to be hairless on your D-Day, but don’t think of leaving the hair removal step for the end. The expert said that any hair removal method like waxing or laser hair removal should be done at least one week before your wedding day. That way, if you have any redness on your skin, it will be alright by the time you have to tie the knot. She suggested to moisturise your skin thoroughly to soothe and hydrate your skin post-your hair removal procedure.

No hair colour before wedding

Hair colour helps to change your looks in such a fabulous way, but if you have never got your hair coloured, it is best to avoid at the last minute. Remember, it is not the ammonia, but para-phenylenediamine (PPD) which is present in most hair dyes and cause severe allergic reactions.

Do facials in advance

You want to glow after a salon facial or medi facial? Do them a week in advance as extractions and exfoliation that are involved in facials, need some time to settle down.

Avoid last-minute decisions to get injectables

Injectables such as lip fillers and anti-wrinkle injections require about four to six weeks to settle and act. They don’t end with your trips to a dermatologist. Sometimes, post-procedure you get swelling or bruising. The expert said that they might rarely occur, but will need some time to minimise.

No new home remedies

If you swear by certain home remedies, it’s fine. But if you are watching videos on social media and trying out a new home remedy for your skin or hair problems then avoid doing them. The expert warned that some home remedies can be problematic if they don’t suit your skin.

The best way to deal with your skin or hair issues and prepare for your wedding day is to consult a certified dermatologist at least three months in advance, starting with a customised skin and hair care routine and incorporating cosmetic treatments if they are needed. Even your salon bookings should be done in advance.
