Ask a woman what she wants when it comes to beauty, and you may get answers like firmer skin with a youthful bounce, soft and smooth skin. There are many home remedies and natural ingredients that promise to deliver all this. In fact, the options are unlimited. Joining the list is bamboo extract that has many benefits for skin. Do you wonder why bamboo extract has become one of the favourite ingredients in skin care products? If you haven’t already tried it, you can give it a shot in the new year. Read on to know about bamboo extract in skin care.

Health Shots reached out to Dr Ritupurna Dash, dermatologist and laser specialist at DASH Dermatology, Noida, and consultant at Max Super Specialty Hospital, Vaishali, and Dr Nidhi Aggarwal, Consultant Dermatologist, Paras Hospitals, Gurugram, to find out the skin care benefits of bamboo extract.

Beauty benefits of bamboo extract

1. Bamboo extract gives radiance to skin

No woman would say no to radiant skin. Dr Dash says that it is rich in silica content (70 percent), so it gives radiance to skin. Silica supports the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), which helps to prevent moisture loss.

2. Bamboo extract is anti-bacterial

Since it is anti-bacterial, it helps to prevent acne, making skin less susceptible to breakouts. Women with oily skin can also include it in their skin care routine. Bamboo extract can provide the skin the ideal strength and firmness, making it ideal for skin that is prone to acne. The skin’s topmost layer, which shields it from bacteria and toxins from the environment, is damaged by acne. Acne treatment is made simpler by bamboo’s ability to reinforce this barrier and restore the outer layer, explains Dr Aggarwal.

3. Bamboo extract is great for cleansing skin

It has excellent cleansing and purifying qualities, thus it aids in the removal of pollutants from the skin. So, after you come back from a long day at work and being exposed to dirt and pollution, you can reach out for a skin care product with bamboo extract in it.

4. Bamboo extract provides UV protection

We know that sunscreen works wonders and helps to provide protection from harmful UV rays. You can look for a sunscreen with bamboo extract in it. Amino acids and flavonoids, which are antioxidants that shield skin from oxidative stress, are abundant in bamboo extract. These ingredients are crucial for UV protection in skin care. Bamboo extract also helps to reduce the appearance of fine wrinkles and maintains your skin relatively soft and moisturised.

Can bamboo extract be used as part of home remedies?

The benefits of bamboo extract are obvious. Anyone can incorporate this straightforward, user-friendly powder into their everyday beauty routine. Since bamboo extract isn’t a widely available product, there may be some misunderstanding over how to use it most effectively. A small quantity of bamboo extract powder can be added to juice or smoothies, suggests Dr Aggarwal.

A small amount of powdered bamboo extract can be included in your morning cleanser. Since the powder nearly melts in liquids, your favourite cleanser combines with it delightfully. Once combined, massage the cleanser into your skin for 45 to 60 seconds to let it interact with your skin and gently exfoliate it.

Bamboo powder also helps to promote strength, suppleness, and shine when added to hair conditioner. To strengthen your hair strands at the root, you can add a small amount of bamboo extract to your hair oil.

Dr Aggarwal notes that there isn’t enough trustworthy data to determine the ideal dosage of bamboo. But she warns to keep in mind that dosages can be crucial and that natural products aren’t always safe. Prior to use, make sure to seek the advice of a healthcare professional.
