Are pimples and breakouts refusing to leave your face alone, even after following your acne treatment? We get you, girl. Acne on the skin fails to subside in a lot of cases, no matter how hard one tries. Acne medication isn’t something that can help you at all times. Needless to say, it’s very frustrating when even something as the last resort of medications does not help clear the skin. However, one must know that no acne products will work if you commit certain skincare sins.

Health Shots got in touch with Dr Gagan Bhatia, naturopathy expert, founder, Uniqaya, who listed various skincare mistakes that cause acne over and over again.

Steer clear of these 5 mistakes when following an acne treatment:

1. You’re hopping around from one product to another

Over-experimentation can be extremely problematic for your skin. One should never use too many different kinds of products all at once, while this may irritate the skin and cause further deterioration. Whenever it comes to acne, one should always keep it simple and not experiment from time to time. You must give ample time to your existing skincare routine to work efficiently.

2. You may be overdoing it

“One should never overdo a skincare routine; Whether it involves over-cleansing, over moisturizing or over exfoliating. Having acne is one of the signs of compromised skin. This is why one should be careful and not over-treat it,” says Dr Bhatia.

3. You’re constantly touching or picking your face

More often than not, acne usually goes away on its own. This is only possible if one does not constantly touch one’s face. If you pop, scratch or pick your pimples, you will make it worse by spreading the bacteria around and not yield proper results.

4. Your lifestyle habits are not in sync with your goals

Dr Bhatia says, “Acne has a lot to do with the kind of life you lead. Acne prevention is not just about using appropriate products. It’s also about maintaining a certain kind of a lifestyle. From ensuring that your pillowcases are washed to eating a well-balanced diet, a lot of factors contribute to ensure that a skincare routine works well. One should also make it a point to remain hydrated and well-slept.

5. You are not consistent with your skincare routine

It is rightly said, Rome was not built in a day. In order to see results overtime, you have to be very consistent with what you choose to apply on your skin. Skincare is an act of patience that shows great benefits overtime. However, one has to be properly motivated to be consistent in this journey. Also, one should give ample time to see the final results and not be impatient with the process. After all, good things arrive at the behest of those who wait.

If you are consistent in terms of your diet, your sleep, your hydration levels, your exercise regime and a proper skincare routine, chances are that you will be rewarded with great skin in no time. Skincare is a regime that rewards in accordance with your time, dedication and habits.
