Removing hair from any part of the body is such a painful experience and especially, when it comes to upper lip hair removal. Women try different methods to remove unwanted hair, some easy, some really painful.

Let us explore some of these hair removal methods and the correct way to do them:

1. Threading

It is the most traditional but also the most painful method of removing upper lip hair. It uproots hair from the root producing transient but long-lasting effects. This hair removal method involves using doubled and twisted cotton threads, which are rolled over the target area to trap and yank out hair from the follicles. The best part about threading is that it is the most hygienic method of all, as the thread is used once only on one client and is thrown after one use. Also, after getting threading done, you are good to go for at least 15-20 days.

2. Hair removal creams

It is one of the easiest and painless methods to remove unwanted hair. All you need to do is apply the cream to the desired area, leave it on for the time suggested (which is usually between 3-10 minutes), and then remove it using a spatula. While you leave the cream on your upper lip, the chemicals in the cream dissolve the surface hair, and this is what helps you get rid of upper lip hair in no time. It is advisable to not use it regularly as the creams have chemicals, which might hamper/burn your skin by causing harmful reactions. So, always do a patch test first and try to use this method sparingly.

3. Waxing

It is a painful technique but has better results than creams and more long lasting. It is better to get it done from a professional but you can do this at home also. Apply hot wax, then slightly put the strip over it and pull it in the direction of your hair growth, otherwise you might leave a rash behind. When the hair is a specific length, waxing is most effective. It may be more painful if the hair is longer than one-quarter to three-quarters of an inch.

4. Tweezers

This technique of upper lip hair removal might take a lot of time but has long lasting results. Gently grasp the skin with one hand while pinching the hair with the tweezer and pulling sharply in the direction of the hair’s development. Using tweezers will cause the skin to become red and irritated for a short period of time, however, applying aloe gel will ease the skin’s discomfort. Also, it is better to adopt this method when the hair growth is not too dense.

5. Laser hair removal

It is a more permanent solution to upper lip hair removal during which a dermatologist uses a concentrated beam of laser light on the hair follicle to destroy the hair. You would need more than one sitting to get permanent results.

6. Face razors

It is a new fad that a lot of people have started to follow. It is a simple and inexpensive method, most suitable for those with sensitive skin. Before shaving, apply shaving cream or soap, then move the razor in the direction of your hair growth. After shaving, apply aloe gel or gel derived from the real aloe plant. Hair may regrow in 3-4 days as razors remove hair from the skin level and not from the roots.

Here are some DIY ways to reduce facial hair growth:

  1. Heat sugar after thickening it with a little water. Once the paste has melted, apply it to the top lip and cover it with a clean strip of cloth. Pull it in the opposite direction of hair growth.
  2. Thoroughly mix 1 tablespoon of turmeric and 1 tablespoon of milk in a small bowl. Once mixed, use your fingers to gently apply the mixture to your upper lip. Once fully dry after about 20 minutes, gently rub with wet fingers — in the direction opposite to your hair growth — until the dried paste is completely removed. Rinse the area with cold water.
  3. Combine 1 tablespoon of honey and 1/2 tablespoon of lemon juice. Apply the mixture to your upper lip skin and leave it on for 20 minutes. Soak a washcloth in warm water. Wring out excess water. Gently wipe off the honey-lemon paste and rinse the area with cool water.
