Shaving is undeniably the most convenient, easy, and cheap way to get rid of your unwanted hair from your body. But this also comes at a cost, because if not done the proper way, shaving can leave your skin damaged.

If you’re someone who believes in shaving to get smooth and hairless skin then you need to take extra care of your skin. Follow these skincare rules to get that super soft and healthy skin post-shaving:

Rule number 1: Have a warm bath before shaving
When it comes to shaving you should prefer using warm water over cold. Warm water relaxes and loosens your skin, whereas many people get goosebumps with cold water which can cause irritation or razor burns while shaving. Warm water also opens up pores and gives you a clean, close shave.

Rule number 2: Ex-foliate
You should forget your ex, but never exfoliation. Exfoliating your skin just before shaving removes dead cells and dirt, and gives you a clean surface to shave. It also unclogs pores and hair follicles reducing any chances of ingrown hair and infections. Try using natural exfoliators, like besan and coffee, instead of chemically-laden products for better results.

Exfoliating also ensures close shave which gives long-lasting effects. So no need of frequent shaving too!

Rule number 3: Never ever dry shave
After you’ve exfoliated, apply a thick layer of shaving cream to avoid any further moisture loss while shaving. This also adds an extra protective layer and prevents cuts and razor burns.

If you have sensitive skin, do not ever skip this step because it will lead to skin irritation post-shave. If you don’t have any shaving foam handy, you can switch to hair conditioner. It provides hydration and is designed to soften your hair. This gives a smoother shave and softer skin.

Rule number 4: Don’t forget to moisturise your skin post-shave
Once you are out of the shower, do not forget to lather your shaved areas with a thick moisturiser. This provides much-needed nourishment to your skin. You can also use organic coconut oil to thoroughly moisturise your skin.

Rule number 5: Avoid any alcohol-based products
Ensure that you don’t use anything that’s high in alcohol content post-shaving. Any lotions, perfumes, or products that contain alcohol must be avoided as they can burn your skin which can take weeks to heal.

Rule number 6: Do not shave on the same day again
Once you are done shaving do not think about shaving any left out hair again on the same day. This may leave your skin irritated and give you razor burn. Shaving two to three days later sif you feel the need.
