Summers are coming and so is the heat. Bummer! But what does your skin wants in this harsh season? Some skin-cooling remedies to keep it fresh, hydrated, and glowing, isn’t it? Guess what? We’ve got the ultimate solution. It is an ingredient that holds a special place in religious rituals in India but also has boastful medicinal uses. Well, it’s none other than Chandan or sandalwood. There are awesome ways to use sandalwood for the skin and get rid of skin issues that summer brings with it.
Sandalwood is a natural antiseptic and preservative that is used in the production of soaps and beauty creams. It helps in fighting acne-causing bacteria, exfoliates the skin, soothes sunburn, removes suntan, and also reduces signs of ageing such as dry skin and wrinkles.
To find more about sandalwood benefits for skin, HealthShots got in touch with Dr Monica Kapoor, A Celebrity Cosmetologist & Director at FLAWLESS Cosmetic clinics.
Dr Kapoor said, “Sandalwood is rich in antioxidants that prevent skin sagging and the consequent formation of wrinkles. It is also capable of fighting the damage caused by the presence of free radicals in the skin. It is known to heal skin tissues. This healing property helps in getting rid of scars from wounds, blemishes, dark spots, and eczema. It removes skin impurities and gives you even tone skin. It prevents those wretched pimples from popping out on the skin. The antiseptic properties of sandalwood reduce bacterial growth on the skin, which makes it very effective in treating acne, boils, and sores and preventing them from worsening.”
Mix red sandalwood powder with lemon juice to prepare a mask for oily skin. Apply this paste all over your face and let it dry out. Once it does, wash it off with lukewarm water. It helps in regulating the secretion of sebum and makes the pores tight.
Mix 1 tbsp of cucumber juice, 1 tbsp of lemon juice, half a tsp of honey, 1 tbsp of tomato juice, and 3 tbsp of sandalwood powder together, to form a smooth paste. Keep this on for 25 minutes and rinse off with warm water. It will help in soothing and treating suntan.
Mix 2 tablespoons of curd or cucumber juice with an equal amount of red sandalwood powder and apply it on the affected area. Let it dry and then wash off. You will see instant results.
To improve the skin texture and keep wrinkles at bay, make a face pack using 1 egg yolk, 1 tsp of yoghurt and 3-4 tbsp of sandalwood powder. Apply this paste on your skin and leave it on for 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water.
