First and foremost, stop applying things on your skin randomly to get rid of the acne! Please understand that acne is a skin condition that occurs when your pores are blocked by oil, dead skin which causes whiteheads, blackheads, or pimples and applying randomly anything can make your acne worse.

Which hair removal wax is your favourite?

1. Benzoyl peroxide gel

Apply 2.5 percent Benzoyl peroxide gel on the pimple twice a day. This reduces oil secretion, it is a comedolytic ie it reduces whiteheads and blackheads. Thirdly, it kills the bacteria responsible for acne.

Here’s how to apply it:

  • Dab a little gel on the acne.
  • Make sure the skin is not dry or flaky when you apply the gel.

Word of caution: Too much quantity can lead to burning, irritation, and redness.

2. Use a pimple patch

Acne/pimple patches are hydro-colloid patches which can be applied on a pimple and left overnight or at least for 6 hours. These patches absorb oil or pus from the pimple and allow the wound to heal. They prevent scarring and of course, prevent the urge to pop a zit. Do not use them on large cystic or nodular acne.

3. Intralesional cortisone injection

Dermatologists are skilled to inject super diluted triamcinolone acetonide into a cyst or nodule to dry it within 12 hours. Don’t attempt it on your own. Visit your dermatologist. Don’t be scared of the word cortisone. This is a FDA approved safe treatment.

Quick fixes are only meant to be done when you have a party or an important event or a shoot. So, consult your dermatologist for proper management of acne.

Make sure you don’t make these mistakes in treating acne:

1. Don’t pop the pimple

Never pop a zit as this can lead to post inflammatory hyperpigmentation and secondary infection

2. Don’t apply toothpaste

Toothpaste is a common hack but it can lead to irritation and scarring. Do not apply toothpaste on a zit

Always, listen to an expert when it comes to your skin because your skin is delicate and you need to be extra cautious with it.
