It is the time of the year, when the cold wind lashes at your face. With that, the temptation to increase the speed of blowers feels like a natural step. Plus, one also has the urge to skip their skincare routine, because it all goes under the mask. But under these circumstances, our lips feel neglected, and feel cracked and chapped.

The hot air circulating at our homes, and the chilly air outside presents a contrasting temperature that causes our lips to get dry and flaky. There is no denying that our lips are one of the most sensitive areas of the body, and need extra care. Keeping a lip balm handy can work, but not all at all times. There are a little more efforts that you must put in to make your lips supple and pink.
Whenever you are stuck, try following the Grandma way! Try turning to the kitchen, because it evidently has ingredients for all your maladies.

Here are a few ways you can dig into your kitchen for remedies for your dry lips:

1. Aloe vera

Aloe vera is an age-old remedy that works to heal various problems. It is packed with moisture and its continuous use helps to keep your lips hydrated. The use is as simple as extracting the gel and massaging it on your lips.

2. Honey

Honey or liquid gold is the easiest available ingredient in the kitchen. It serves as an amazing moisturizing agent that has multiple antibacterial properties. Make a mixture of honey and glycerin, and apply it to your lips. Leave it overnight and wake up to amazing beautiful lips.

3. Honey and seeds

Mix honey with sesame seeds, and use it as a lip scrub with an ounce of almond oil to make your very own lip scrub. Use this scrub to remove dead skin and cure chapped lips.

4. Oils

Oils are the go-to option whenever you need intense moisturization. They not only help enhance beauty but also rejuvenate and replenish the skin. Almond oil is one of the most nourishing oils, and not only helps to lighten the color over a period of time but can also be used as an organic makeup remover. It contains several vitamins and minerals, including vitamin E, potassium, and zinc, as well as monounsaturated fatty acids that are your skin’s best friend.

Steer clear of these habits to protect your lips:

  • Most of us have a habit of licking our lips, hoping this would provide the moisture they need. Biting your lips, licking them, being too harsh while cleaning them, or not cleaning them at all hampers lip health in ways that we are completely oblivious of.
  • Before you head to buy your next batch of lip balm, try to go through the ingredients first. Do not use balms that have ingredients like camphor, eucalyptus, and menthol. These ingredients promote more dryness on your lips, making the problems worse.
  • Our lips are sensitive to sun damage, so always use SPF-integrated products!

The takeaway

As the old adage goes, ‘Prevention is better than cure’, and when it comes to skincare, this should be your goal!
