Just like we meticulously clean our diet and switch to healthy food alternatives, our skin needs the same care. The beauty industry has seen a rise in the use of natural skincare as the perfect food for the skin. The presence of harsh chemicals in our fancy skincare products does more harm to our skin than good. Ingredients derived from nature have no side effects and prove fruitful for the skin in the longer run. So, if you are planning for some skin detox, now is the time to clean your skincare shelves and swap your chemical-loaded products with more natural ingredients for skin.

HealthShots got in touch with Dr Vahida Khan, Senior Dermatology, Gulati Multi-speciality hospital, Dehradun, to answer why should we use more natural ingredients in our skincare.

Why go for natural ingredients for skincare?

“Just like an organic diet is good for health, natural skincare is better for the skin. It protects the skin from the harmful effects of chemicals and gives glowing, radiant, and glowing skin,” shares the expert. So, if you’ve been thinking how can I improve my skin naturally, here’s your answer!

1. Natural ingredients are safe for the skin

“Natural skincare products are safe on our skin, and they do not contain any chemical or synthetic ingredients and are good for the environment too. Natural ingredients, such as oils and natural extracts, can improve moisture retention, encourage cell regeneration and reduce oxidative stress.”

Natural ingredients are free from toxins and are not harmful to the skin. They come with potentially no side effects and beautify the skin after persistent usage. When you start using more natural ingredients, you will notice a visible reduction in allergic reactions, itching, irritation, or acne in the skin.

2. Rich in nutrition

Anything made using natural ingredients is nutritionally-rich. These ingredients have amazing results on your overall health which makes them good for the skin, too. Skincare made using ingredients like peppermint, shea butter, coconut oil, etc has vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that make them beneficial for the skin and have potential effects in treating skin woes.

3. They are good for the environment

Natural skin products don’t leave a harmful footprint on the environment. They don’t cause any soil or water pollution or leave any chemical residue on being washed away in the drains.

4. They have better effects on the skin

Natural ingredients for skin are free from chemicals and are made using pure ingredients. Natural skin care has more effects on the skin. They penetrate deep into the skin and showcase visible results without showing any side effects.

5. They are sustainable

Synthetic skin care ingredients are made using harmful chemicals like petroleum, and they harm the environment. Sometimes, animal products are also used in cosmetics that are not sustainable. However, natural skincare is more sustainable and does not cause harm to animals, or the environment in any way.

The bottom line

If you are on the lookout for a skincare regime that makes your skin look flawless and ingredients that are safe to use and good for the environment as well, then add more natural ingredients to your skincare. You can shift from chemical products to organic products to notice a visible difference in your skin. But a word of caution here. It’s best to do a patch test before making full use of an ingredient to rule out any scope of a reaction. Besides, if you suffer from a skin condition, it may be ideal to check with a skincare expert before going full throttle with a natural ingredient.
