We’ve all probably heard that too much of anything is bad. The same stands true for the natural oil that our skin produces. The sebaceous glands in the skin produce sebum, which is an oily substance that protects our skin and provides it with natural hydration. However, excess sebum production can lead to oily skin. Oily skin doesn’t just add an unwanted shine to the skin, but can also clog the pores, increasing the risk of whiteheads, blackheads and pimples.

Those who have oily skin know the struggle! No matter how much we try, keeping the skin clear of oil seems almost impossible. But, oil production needs to be controlled in order to reduce the risk of clogged pores. In such a situation, natural remedies work best!

Here are three powerful face packs for oily skin:

1. Multani mitti and rose water

Used since time immemorial, multani mitti is an integral part of the natural skincare regime. It has excellent cleansing powers, which means it effectively removes excess oil from the skin’s surface, removes dead skin cells and gets rid of dirt that might clog the pores. The other ingredient, which is rose water, has a calming effect on the skin. It can soothe acne and irritation.

To prepare the mask, add two teaspoons of rose water to one teaspoon of multani mitti. Mix these two ingredients together, until there are no lumps left. Apply it on the face and neck. Use warm water to wash off the face mask.

2. Besan, lemon and milk

Besan has exfoliating properties that remove dead skin cells and other impurities from the skin. What’s more, it can absorb the excess oil on the skin. Lemon, which contains vitamin C, doesn’t just provide the skin with antioxidants, but its acidic nature can also help eliminate oil from the skin’s surface. Milk contains lactic acid, and can add to the exfoliating properties of this face mask.

3. Tomato and honey

Tomato has vitamins A and C, which can provide your skin with a good dose of antioxidants and heal it. In addition, the acidic component of tomato works helps to remove excess oil. Honey is anti-microbial in nature and reduces the risk of developing skin infections. What’s more, it can heal wounds and can work on soothing the skin.

To prepare the mask, grate half a tomato to get a purée. Next, add one teaspoon of honey to it. Apply this mix on your face for 10 to 15 minutes, before removing it using warm water. In case you don’t have the time to grate the tomato, simply apply honey on the whole piece of tomato, and rub it on your face for 10 to 15 minutes, before washing it with water.
