It is the time of the year when loose cotton clothes take the front seat in your wardrobe and mid-day tea is replaced by cold coffee or chilled coconut water. Summer in India is not exactly the best time for your skin either. The harsh sun and the humid climate can make your skin suffer. Some of the common summer skin problems include breakouts, tanning, sun spots, and uneven skin tone. And you can’t exactly stick to a 10-step skincare routine because it’s too humid outside. What you can do is try aloe ice for skin.

Hair and beauty expert Ambika Pillai recently took to her Instagram to share a simple hack that can soothe the skin and help you ward off summer skin problems.

Aloe ice for skin

Pillai swears by this aloe ice home remedy that helps her deal with a lot of skin problems. She says it helps hydrates the skin, close the pores, nourish the skin, reduce pimples and acne, and provide you instant stress relief. And guess what? It can actually help as suggested by some studies.

Studies have shown that icing can help your skin in a number of ways. A study published in Frontiers in Psychology found that icing offers anti-inflammatory properties that help slow down inflammation and minimize skin pores, which can help reduce excessive oil production. Another study found positive effects of using ice cubes for puffy eyes.

The other key ingredient here is aloe vera, which is considered extremely beneficial for your health. As per a Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine study, aloe vera contains antioxidants, immune boosting properties, antimicrobial, hypoglycemic, hypolipidemic, wound healing and anti-diabetic properties. Since it is loaded with so many properties, it is a given that it can work wonders for your skin in summer.

How to make aloe ice at home?

To prepare aloe ice, all you need is water and aloe vera. Here’s the recipe by the expert you can try:

Take 3 stalks of freshly cut aloe vera and stand them in a bottle or jar until the yellow sap seeps out of it. Slice the aloe vera and scoop out the gel. Now, beat it in a blender until there are no chunks left. For making the aloe ice container, use an old-school hand brush for a comfortable grip. Transfer the gel into a bowl size bigger than the hand brush. Now, sink the bristles of the brush into the gel so that the top of the brush stays above the gel. Refrigerate overnight and use it on your face the next morning. Let the ice skin in and do its magic on your skin.
