The corrective care of scarred skin evoked my deep interest, not only because of the damage to the skin, but also because of the psychological problems it can cause in terms of loss of self-esteem and self confidence. Scars may be due to injuries or burns and many may need plastic or cosmetic surgery. However, the most common blemishes on the face are dark spots, scars and pits on the skin, left behind by acne.
As we know, acne not only leaves dark marks, but also tiny holes in the skin, which are difficult to remove, as they form due to the destruction of skin tissue. The pits can also give the skin a premature aged look. Sometimes, there is extra growth of scar tissue, developing into “keloids”. The result of this kind of scarring is that the skin becomes uneven and loses its smooth texture.
Among the treatments for scars are laser therapy, micro dermabrasion, chemical peeling, alpha hydroxy acids, etc. However, considering the risks involved in chemical peels, I devised a “bio peeling” method called Veg Peel treatments to minimize scars. These are clinical treatments, based on dermabrasion, i.e. gently rubbing the skin with some grainy substances formulated with plant extracts. However, now it is also possible to follow these veg peel treatments at home, but for extensive scarring, several sessions of clinical treatments may be necessary. Also, if there are pimples and acne, they must be treated first.
Home remedies may also help, but home remedies for scar removal should be carried out after the acne condition has subsided or the injury is cured. If there are only scars and pit, without any pimples, acne or rash, use a facial scrub.
A face pack may also be used once or twice a week.
Sometimes, such face packs can cause dryness of the skin. For dry skin, take two teaspoons of curd, add a pinch of turmeric (haldi) and apply daily on the face, washing it off after 15 minutes. This not only softens the skin, but also lightens dark marks and scars.
Lemon juice helps to lighten scars.
Avoid sun exposure after applying lemon juice. If you like, you can mix one teaspoon aloe vera gel with the lemon juice. Aloe vera helps to minimize scars and also improves skin texture. In fact, aloe vera gel or juice can be applied on acne scars, as it is said to heal scar tissue. You can use aloe vera directly from the plant, or buy aloe vera gel over the counter. The gel obtained from the plant itself is the leaf pulp and is found in the inner portion of the leaves. The aloe juice is found just beneath the outer skin of the leaves. However, while using it directly on the skin at home, one should wash the plant well and observe total hygiene.

Fruit masks also help dark marks.
Honey by itself is also said to help acne scars.
A word of warning! Never pick pimples or blackheads with the nails. This can cause the condition to spread and also leave scars on the skin.
