A simple Google search on ‘how to get rid of a hickey’ will give you multiple results. But, how many of them actually work? Well, many of them don’t but there are many that do contribute towards making that love bite disappear. We thought we’d let you know of the ones that can do the job so you don’t end up wasting your time.

Before we tell you of the hickey hacks, let’s get to know a little more about love bites. Like, did you know that a hickey can last for two weeks? Yes, too much pressure on the superficial veins causes a rupture.

“The blood starts leaking out from the veins due to the rupture. This results in a bruise-like mark”, said Dr. Roshini, a dermatologist from Apollo Telehealth.

A visible love bite can become a cause of social embarrassment along with making you the topic of gossip. And we don’t want that happening, right? So, here are some hacks that will save you all that embarrassment and trouble:

1. Go for hot compress within 12 to 24 hours

You need to manage the blood that has been accumulated in the area. You need to bring it into motion and a hot compress will come handy in this situation.
Take a cloth and dip it in hot water. Now, squeeze the excess water from the cloth and pat the affected area with it.

The doctor suggested:

Do this as often as you can to allow the blood to move.

2. Time for some cold compression

You can do this the very next day. “The hot compression will lighten the hickey to a great extent but you will have to treat it with cold compression to complete the process. The cold compression will constrict the blood vessels and help in healing the hickey”, she suggests.

3. Don’t massage the area

Many of friends, including Google, will tell you to massage the area. But, according to Dr. Roshni, this can lead to more rupturing since the area is still vulnerable.
