“The blood starts leaking out from the veins due to the rupture. This results in a bruise-like mark”, said Dr. Roshini, a dermatologist from Apollo Telehealth.

1. Go for hot compress within 12 to 24 hours

You need to manage the blood that has been accumulated in the area. You need to bring it into motion and a hot compress will come handy in this situation.
Take a cloth and dip it in hot water. Now, squeeze the excess water from the cloth and pat the affected area with it.

The doctor suggested:

Do this as often as you can to allow the blood to move.

2. Time for some cold compression

You can do this the very next day. “The hot compression will lighten the hickey to a great extent but you will have to treat it with cold compression to complete the process. The cold compression will constrict the blood vessels and help in healing the hickey”, she suggests.

3. Don’t massage the area

Many of friends, including Google, will tell you to massage the area. But, according to Dr. Roshni, this can lead to more rupturing since the area is still vulnerable.
