Sugar is not all about satiating your sweet cravings; it can also work wonders for your skin. Oh no, we don’t mean internally, but when used in the form of a scrub. That’s because it helps retain moisture of the skin. Sugar exfoliates the skin, while preventing it from any form of dryness. It helps in hydrating your skin by drawing moisture from the natural environment to your skin cells.
Moreover, sugar is a good source of glycolic acid, which breaks the bonds between the outer layer of skin cells (dead skin cells included), creating a peeling effect that can make the skin appear smoother and more even.
Hence, to help you get an even tone and glowing skin, we present to you five home-made face scrubs that you can make with sugar at home:
This scrub will help you reduce tan and dark spots. Mix two spoons of sugar and juice of four lemons. Gently massage the mixture using your fingertips in a circular motion on your face and remember to rub the sugar granules until they are dissolved, before washing it off with water.
Green tea is an antioxidant with anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties, providing your skin with freshness and helping reduce acne. Mix a teaspoon of green tea leaves with a teaspoon of sugar and add a few drops of olive oil to achieve a thick consistency. Gently apply the paste across your face and leave it for a while. Remember to be gentle when scrubbing the paste and use your fingertips to remove all the dirt and dead skin from your face, when washing it away.
Oatmeal is a great ingredient to manage oily skin and acne as it absorbs the excess oil from your skin and provides anti-inflammatory properties. Mix a tablespoon of oats and a teaspoon of sugar, and add a few drops of olive oil or honey to turn it into a paste. Apply this paste across your face and let it set for ten minutes, before washing it off gently.
Olive oil will help get rid of toxins from the skin cells, and provides a natural glow as it wards off skin darkness and helps remove blackheads and whiteheads. Simply mix one tablespoon of olive oil with sugar to form a paste. Apply the paste gently using fingertips, and wash it off with water.
Turmeric helps in reducing tan, fighting off acne, lightening dark circles and clears off dead skin. Mix a tablespoon of turmeric powder with sugar, and add a teaspoon of honey to form a paste. Apply the paste on your face and let it sit for 20 minutes. Remember to wash it off using lukewarm water.
