Although dandruff is a harmless condition that occurs when the scalp becomes dry and greasy, it can become a stubborn problem to deal with in certain cases. That’s because it produces white flakes or dead skin along with unbearable itching and flakiness in the scalp. Moreover, dandruff can further cause hair loss, and that can be a huge embarrassment. 

But worry not, we have a solution for you! You can combat dandruff by using garlic for hair–yes, it’s true! It is an ancient home remedy that has antifungal, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. These properties can treat your scalp issues or infections with ease. 

Here’s how using garlic for hair can help you in tackling dandruff

Most of us have used anti-dandruff products available in the supermarket, but unfortunately, they promise more than they deliver! In the case of garlic, you are bestowed with a whole lot of goodness. The ancient herb is a potent source of allicin, a natural antifungal that has anti-candida properties that cures dandruff by eliminating microbes, which cause the issue.

Besides, garlic is an excellent source of vitamin A and C, and a good source of sulphur compounds, fibre, magnesium, selenium, germanium, and amino acids. Additionally, it also contains other minerals including iron, copper, zinc, phosphorus, and calcium. These nutrients are all great for your hair health! 

Here are some ways to consume garlic to treat dandruff:

1. Raw garlic: Usually garlic is cooked, but you can also chew its raw form — that’s even better! Eating a clove of garlic helps to relieve dandruff.

2. Cooked garlic: You can consume cooked garlic with any of your meals. It helps to reduce the bacteria and fungi that cause dandruff, and offers a range of health benefits, including enhancing the flavour of your food. 

Here are some hair masks you should know about:
1. Honey and garlic mask

Both honey and garlic are a source of antioxidants. It can provide moisture to your hair, and can treat dandruff.

Ingredients
  • 4-5 garlic cloves 
  • 2 tbsp honey 
How to use:
  1. Make a paste using garlic cloves, add honey and prepare a mixture.
  2. Massage this mixture into your scalp for 10 minutes, let it stay for 20 minutes. Wash it off with a mild shampoo.
2. Aloe vera and garlic mask

Use aloe vera and garlic to prepare a hair mask that helps to fight bacterial infections. Massage it into your scalp to help tackle dandruff.

Ingredients:
  • 3 tbsp garlic paste
  • 2 tbsp aloe vera gel

How to use:
  1. Mix both the ingredients together to make a paste.
  2. Apply it on your scalp for 15-20 minutes, and then wash off your hair with a mild shampoo. 
3. Apple cider vinegar(ACV) and garlic mask

ACV with garlic can surely reduce dandruff because both contain anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. 

Ingredients:
  • 2 tbsp ACV
  • 1 tbsp garlic paste 
How to use:
  1. Mix the ACV and garlic paste in a bowl, and add a little water to it to make a smooth paste.
  2. Apply the paste on your scalp and after 20 minutes, wash it off with a mild shampoo.
