If you believe that you need to slather on body lotion only during winter to combat dryness, then let us tell you: you are highly mistaken.

You see, during hot summer months when the humidity is low or when we spend hours in an air-conditioned environment our skin loses moisture. Not to mention, exposure to the sun over a period of time, also lowers the skin’s ability to retain moisture.

And this doesn’t just pertain to all you lassies with dry skin. Oily skins can also be short of moisture.

Here’s why a body moisturizer is important, even in the summer
You see, the skin absorbs moisture in the form of an emulsion of oil and water. It cannot absorb water or oil by itself. This is where body lotions come in as they replenish moisture and keep the skin soft and smooth

If you don’t want to go in for chemical-laden packaged moisturisers, try these home remedies instead:

Let diluted honey to your rescue
Honey is a powerful natural humectant, which helps to attract moisture to the skin. It also makes the skin soft and smooths rough areas. The best part? It suits all skin types. Here’s how you can use it: dilute honey with water and apply it on your body. Leave it on for 15 minutes and wash off with plain water.

Alternatively, you can also mix honey with orange juice and apply this mixture on the face, neck, and arms to make it soft and smooth. Wash off after 20 minutes.

Trust good-old aloe vera to get the job done
Aloe vera is a powerful natural moisturizer and seals off loss of moisture. It also softens dead skin cells and helps their removal, leaving the skin smoother and brighter. In fact, it helps the normal functions of the skin by improving its capacity to retain moisture.

Use glycerine and rose water to make a DIY moisturizer
