“My foot!” is a common phrase used by many of us, implying for some reason, a derogatory connotation. But why? Feet deserve equal care and attention, especially when they are the ones that literally carry all your weight! So why ignore them in your beauty regime? One reason could be that foot creams and exfoliants available in the market are generally expensive. If that is your ‘sole’ reason then we have got you! Here’s a method to do a pedicure at home to ensure your feet receive the love they deserve.

Foot exfoliation becomes crucial for multiple reasons. Exfoliation increases blood circulation and hence, relieves the pain you get after a long and hard day! It helps in relaxing your feet and also prevents your skin from turning hard. It also helps in lightening the darker spots near your toenails. Plus, with the summer heat on the rise, your feet are already coiling with the dehydration and dryness they are going to face! We bring to you an easy recipe that requires only 3 ingredients, easily available at home: Papaya, sugar and coconut oil.

Here are the benefits of these ingredients for pedicure at home:

1. Papaya

Papaya contains Vitamin A and Papain enzyme, which helps in nourishing the skin by removing dead skin cells and inactive proteins, thus also rejuvenating and hydrating the skin. So if you are somebody who already has cracked heels, then using papaya as a foot scrub will do wonders.

2. Coconut oil

Coconut oil is historically known to be your grandma’s all-time favorite remedy. So adding a few drops to your mixture will enhance the benefits of the foot scrub. Apart from its excellent nourishing properties, Coconut oil is an excellent anti-fungal and anti-bacterial oil. Including this oil will only help in cleansing your nails and feet thoroughly.

3. Sugar

Sugar can be replaced with brown sugar as well. Sugar crystals gently remove the dead skin and the obstinate dirt that is fixed between your nails and toes. Most importantly, it unclogs the pores on your feet.

Here’s what you need to do a pedicure at home:

1/2 Cup papaya pulp
8 Tablespoons sugar
3 Tablespoons coconut Oil

Process: Mix papaya pulp and sugar really well, and then add 3 tablespoons of coconut oil. Put this scrub into an air-tight container. While doing this pedicure at home, make sure water doesn’t get inside the box. This is simple and eco-friendly.

Shelf life: 5-7 days refrigerated.

Since papaya is known for its skin whitening properties, it is an excellent scrub to reduce tan and dark skin. A good thing about this foot scrub is that you can make it in bulk and keep it aside for more frequent applying!
