Whether or not you rely on expensive products in fancy bottles for your hair and skin, the truth is at some point in our lives we have all tried some natural cures. While some are pretty standard like coconut oil for hair and haldi-chandan for skin; others can be weird and gross.

After all, not all kitchen ingredients are the same—especially in raw form. But what if we tell you that it is the slimiest of ingredients that can give you flawless skin and luscious hair?

Don’t believe us? Then take a look at these five ingredients that might be gross but can do wonders for you:

1. Pumpkin

Let’s start easy! Pumpkin might not sound gross, because we eat all the time. But once you start applying it raw on your skin, things can get really slimy. That said, pumpkin acts as a gentle exfoliator that sloughs off dead skin without ripping out the moisture.

Pumpkin also has super-antioxidant carotenoids that improve the texture of your skin, this food works perfectly for people with oily skin.

2. Eggs

From the slimy texture to the weird smell, raw eggs are really gross. And yet, applying raw eggs on your face and hair has been widely used as a home remedy. The nourishing protein content of eggs works especially well for hair and conditions your mane to make it stronger, longer, and thicker. Egg whites, on the hand, are used to unclog pores and combat excessive oilness of the skin.

3. Mayonnaise

If you thought mayonnaise is better off slathered on sandwiches, then you are wrong! No matter how grossed out you feel with the thought of applying this spread on your face and hair, mayonnaise can do wonders.

When applied on your hair it can leave your tresses soft and smooth and frizz-free. Not only does it leave your hair moisturised, but it also promotes hair growth!

4. Chillies

Yes, you read it right! Turns out applying chilli on your face can make it glow. Of course, no one is asking you to rub it directly on your skin–but many beauty bloggers claim that mixing it with fats like yogurt can do wonders. However, if you have sensitive skin or a scratch or raw boil somewhere, we would suggest you skip this one.

5. Oatmeal

How about if we tell you to apply your breakfast on your face? You didn’t expect it right? But it’s completely okay to use this breakfast cereal all over your face. Oats have been widely known for their many benefits on skin and hair.
