If the title got you curious and desperate for an excellent hair care remedy, you’re at the right place. Hair problems keep springing up from time to time. We can blame the fast-paced fashion world that made us go for extreme hairstyling, colouring, and chemical treatments. However, external factors like pollution, UV rays, and hard water also have their share of foul play. But, an updated shampoo routine can reverse the hair damage and give you thicker hair! Well, adding coconut milk to your shampoo does it all.
You may be surprised to know this, but a little drizzle of coconut milk in your hair care routine can treat all your hair problems from the root. All you need to do is dilute your shampoo with a spoonful of thick coconut milk and follow with your regular hair wash routine.
To validate this hair care hack, HealthShots spoke to Dr Monica Kapoor, a celebrity cosmetologist and director at FLAWLESS Cosmetic Clinics.
Dr Kapoor says, “Coconut milk is excellent for your hair as it is packed with vital and essential nutrients. Coconut milk is known for its magnanimous content of vitamins C, E, B1, B3, B5 and B6 as well as iron, selenium, sodium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorus. In fact, because of those nutrients, the scalp remains nourished and hair follicles are strengthened, thereby promoting hair growth.”
Because of its brilliant moisturising capacity, coconut milk can help to keep the hair smooth and silky. As an added step, a gentle massage for 5 minutes with home-made coconut milk followed by a hot towel can have a good nourishing effect on your hair. This is particularly beneficial for restoring dry, damaged and brittle hair, as well as split ends.
It improves blood circulation in your scalp, fights damage and conditions hair deeply. Coconut milk can be used as a scalp tonic for dry, itchy and irritated scalp.
Wash your hair with equal amounts of coconut milk and shampoo, or use a spoonful of coconut milk as a leave-in conditioner. This not only adds volume to your hair, makes it less frizzy minus the grease and promotes longer, thicker hair.
Greying of hair is caused when cells at the hair base called melanocytes stop producing the pigment which gives our hair its colour. To continue making the colour producing pigment, the cells need vitamin B12. Coconut milk is loaded with it and prevents premature greying due to the deficiency of Vitamin B12.
The nourishing qualities of coconut milk supplements the hair with essential nutrients. This makes them healthier and speeds up hair growth. The extreme growth in your baby hair eventually increases the hair volume too giving you thicker hair.
Dr Kapoor doles out an additional hair care tip for extremely dry and brittle hair. She suggests using coconut milk as a hair mask once a week. For this, you need to heat one-fourth cup of the milk and when it is slightly warm, massage it directly on the scalp for 10 minutes; be gentle and liberally apply it to the tips of your hair.
