Even after using bottles and bottles of those heavy-duty moisturizers, if the result hasn’t changed much, then you know what there got to be a problem! That’s because rather than trusting those cosmetic brands, you should trust home remedies for dry skin, and go all natural.

You know why going natural is the best way to treat your skin? That’s because there are almost zero chances of side-effects and without a doubt, all these hacks are pocket-friendly too.

But hey, do you know why exactly your skin is all dry and flaky? Of course, the skin loses its moisture content with age, but there is a proper science to it.

Come let’s ask a dermatologist what’s making your skin so dry.

There are many causes that can lead to dry skin, says Dr Rana

According to renowned dermatologist and aesthetic medicine physician and founder director of ILAMED, Dr Ajay Rana, dry skin is a feeling of skin tightness, especially after showering, bathing, or swimming. It is often temporary but in rare circumstances, it may be a lifelong condition.

The appearance of dry skin depends on age, health and many other factors such as weather. Skin tends to be the driest in winter, when temperatures and humidity levels decrease suddenly.

Central heating, wood-burning stoves, space heaters, and fireplaces, all of these reduce humidity and make your skin more dry. Taking long, hot showers or baths is also a big cause.

Use of harsh soaps, detergents and shampoos strip moisture from your skin, as they are formulated to remove oil. People with skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis (eczema) or psoriasis are prone to dry skin

“Skin dryness can make the skin look rough, cause itching (pruritus) and slight to severe flaking, scaling or peeling, fine lines or cracks, gray, ashy skin, redness, deep cracks that may bleed,” says Dr Rana.

Here are nine natural skincare tips for dry skin from Dr Rana to help you out:
1. Coconut oil

Coconut oil has several health benefits. This oil has emollient properties and works well for dry skin. Emollients hydrate the skin and make it smooth by filling up the gap between the skin cells.

Petroleum jelly is also known as mineral oil, and it has been used on the skin for many years. It forms a protective layer on the skin and traps the moisture underneath. It is very helpful to heal dry and patchy skin.
