You simply can’t deny that mango is the undisputed ‘king’ of the fruity kingdom—after all, no other fruit compares to its taste, sweetness, and wonderful smell.

However, mango is also exceptionally rich in several nutrients such as vitamin C, vitamin A and minerals like copper, potassium, and magnesium. It is this nutritional richness that not only makes it worth adding to your summer diet, but also to your summer skincare routine.

Yes, you read that right. When it comes to skincare, mango helps in protecting your skin against the harmful UV rays of the sun. It also reduces the inflammation caused by acne and brightens up your skin.

Additionally, mango works like a charm when it comes to reducing signs of ageing such as fine lines and wrinkles. Additionally, it moisturises the skin deeply,” says Dr. Lakshmi Divya Bobba, consultant dermatologist, Dermiq Skincare Clinic, Hyderabad, India.

Thanks to these benefits, mangos have become the main ingredient in several beauty products recently. However, instead of burning a hole in the pocket for buying them, you can make your own skincare potions using mango!

Here are 6 options recommended by Dr. Lakshmi:

1. Mango face mask for tanned skin
Mix one teaspoon of lemon juice with the pulp of one full mango. Apply this pack on the tanned area, leave it on for around 20 to 30 minutes. Wash it with normal water.

2. Antioxidant mask
For this, you can use either mango pulp or dry mango powder. Take 2 teaspoons of mango pulp or powder and mix it well with 1 tablespoon of green tea powder. Leave this soothing mask on for 20 minutes and wash it with cold water. It will make your skin glow and look brighter.

3. Exfoliation mask
In this highly polluted environment, we all know how difficult it is to prevent the formation of dead skin cells on your skin. Mango scrub can be a blessing in such a case. All you need is 1 teaspoon of mango pulp, 1 teaspoon of honey, and 1 teaspoon of milk. Mix these ingredients well and massage it into your skin to get rid of the dead skin.

4. Glow pack
Mix the pulp of one full mango with 1 teaspoon of organic honey and 1 tablespoon of milk. Apply this mixture on your face. Leave it on for 10 minutes, and wash it off to get soft and glowing skin.

5. Acne-fighting pack
Mix 2 teaspoons of mango pulp with 2 teaspoons of curd and 2 teaspoons of honey. Apply this pack for 15 to 20 minutes and wash it with normal water. This will help you fight acne and pigmentation, by removing excess oil from your face.

6. Skin-smoothening pack
Take 2 tablespoons of mango pulp, 1 tablespoon of oats, 2 teaspoons raw milk, and 3 to 4 ground almonds. Apply this face pack on your face and scrub it off after 15 minutes. Wash your face with water. This is the best organic scrub and can help you achieve a softer and smoother skin.

Keep these pointers in mind though
While you enjoy the skincare benefits of mango, Dr. Lakshmi suggests that you keep these pointers in mind as well:

  • Remove the pack if you sense itchiness, irritation or discomfort post its application.
  • Refrain from using it if you suffer from any skin condition such as severe acne, eczema, extreme skin sensitivity, etc.
  • If you are undergoing any cosmetic procedure or using any night creams, you must check with your dermatologist before you apply anything on your skin.
