Another year is coming to an end, and another plan for New Year’s Eve is commencing. And while you’re thinking that you can wear and how to do your make-up, it’s also time to take care of your skin. Especially those dark circles.
Dark circles are as common as common can be. So you’re not alone! But this also begs the question: why do we get dark circles to begin with?
Well, from hereditary factors and nutritional deficiencies to stress and inadequate sleep—there are plenty of reasons why dark circles come into our lives. So basically, along with home remedies, a well-balanced diet which includes fresh fruits, salads, sprouts, unprocessed cereals, yogurt, skimmed milk, cottage cheese (paneer), dal, leafy green vegetables, egg, and fish is a must.
But while food can take a few months to show results, you can trust these home remedies to minimize dark circles, brighten eyes, and reduce eye fatigue within a few days:
1. Use almond oil daily
Apply a few drops (sparingly) of pure almond oil around your eyes. Massage it lightly for about a minute under each eye, in one direction and only using your ring finger. Leave it on for 15 minutes and wipe off gently with a moist cotton wool.
Almond oil lightens skin and helps with an even tone. It also nourishes the skin under the eyes.
2. Let cucumber do the job for you
Cucumber is a common remedy for under-eye dark circles. Cucumber—juiced, sliced, or grated can be applied around the eyes. Soak cotton wool pads in cucumber juice and apply over closed eyes for 15 minutes.
Cucumber will brighten the skin and remove any signs of fatigue. Dark circles can also be treated by mixing cucumber juice with lemon juice in equal quantities. Apply the concoction daily and wash off with water after 15 minutes.
3. Milk and saffron can also come to your rescue
Milk is said to minimize dark circles and nourish the skin. Soak cotton wool pads in cold milk and apply over your eyes. Alternatively, you can wipe the skin around your eyes gently with milk-soaked cotton wool.
Saffron can also lighten your skin. Soak a few strands of saffron in cold milk. Then apply the milk with cotton wool around the eyes. Wash off with plain water after 20 minutes.
4. Trust rose water
Rose water also helps to brighten the under-eye area and reduce signs of fatigue. Take some cotton wool and make two thick square pads. Soak them in chilled rose water. Lie down, close your eyes, and put the soaked pads on them. Keep them on for about 15 minutes.
5. Welcome aloe vera gel into your arsenal of products
Aloe vera gel is said to revitalize the skin. It is ideal for the sensitive skin around the eyes. It hydrates the skin and reduces dark circles over a period of time. It also softens and nourishes the skin.
Apply the gel under the eyes and leave it on for 10 minutes. Then massage it very lightly with your fingers and wash it off with cold water.
