Adding a tad bit of disinfectant to a bucket full of water was mum’s superhit idea to keep germs away. But unfortunately, it backfired at times, leading to multiple other issues like a dry and itchy scalp, and flaky skin. Instead, we have another liquid that’s popular as a weight loss remedy the world over, and can also do wonders for your skin? Yes, we are talking about apple cider vinegar.

We know how shocked you are, but remember apple cider vinegar is all you need to embrace for your skin, thanks to its antibacterial and antifungal properties. It helps to remove all kinds of impurities from your body, especially when you sweat.

So let’s not wait any further, and tell you all about the benefits of an apple cider vinegar bath.

1. It prevents body odour
According to Dr Pooja Chopra, dermatologist at Aakash Healthcare & Super Specialty Hospital, Dwarka, sweat is odourless. It generates malodour, because of superadded bacteria.

“Add a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to a bucket full of water, and take a bath with this water to reduce body odour. Also, apple cider vinegar diluted with water can also be gently rubbed under the armpits to get rid of malodour”, she suggests.

2. Helps to reduce dandruff
Dandruff is not just caused due to dryness, but oily skin also leads to dandruff. In fact, according to Dr Chopra, oily skin dandruff is worse as it sticks to the scalp, making it more vulnerable to other infections.

In such cases, the antifungal and acidic properties of apple cider vinegar come to your rescue. It washes away the excess oil on the scalp, and keeps it clean. Besides, it also prevents dust from sticking to your scalp by keeping it dry.

“Oily scalp dandruff can be as bad, as it can lead to uncontrollable itching, which can also give you rashes on your head. That makes it hard to even comb your hair”, she explains.

3. Relieves itchy skin
“Too much sweat makes your skin itchy. This makes your skin prone to rashes, redness, and acne. In this case bathing with diluted apple cider vinegar can actually be the most proficient and natural way to heal your skin”, shares Dr Chopra.

4. Gives you glowing skin
“Of course, when there is no impurity settlement on your skin, then it will glow for sure. Plus, the acidic nature of apple cider vinegar reduces pigmentation and dark spots” she says.
