There is a famous saying that ‘everything comes at a cost.’ Every good thing has some side effects that you cannot ignore! The same stands true for the famed jojoba oil. Jojoba oil is rapidly gaining popularity because of its versatile nature and the variety of beauty benefits it has to offer.

Basically, jojoba is a shrub. Jojoba oil and wax are produced using the seeds of this shrub that grows in the arid regions of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. Jojoba has been used as medicine for multiple issues such as acne, sunburns, psoriasis, and chapped skin. What’s more, it has been used for hair loss problems and to encourage regrowth of the hair.

In fact, jojoba oil seems to have been used since time immemorial to deal with skin and hair problems. No wonder, in modern times, we can find it as an integral part of multiple products. Its benefits include:

  • Deep moisturisation
  • Hair conditioning
  • Hair growth
  • Reduction of blemishes
What makes jojoba oil so special? Let’s find out!

Jojoba oil has a variety of healing properties that can be used to treat skin problems like sunburn, acne, eczema, and psoriasis. It is a powerhouse of vitamins C, B, and E along with minerals such as copper and zinc. Jojoba oil is extremely nourishing. In fact, it has anti-inflammatory and mild antiseptic properties. Hence, it can prove to be extremely useful in soothing irritated skin.

We’ve already mentioned that everything comes at a cost. So, before you start using jojoba oil, it is important to find out its side effects. Here are 3 prime side effects of jojoba oil:

1. Unsafe to use on the mouth

Jojoba oil is intended for external use only. So, you can use it on your skin and hair. You should never apply it on your mouth or consume it because it can be unsafe to do so. It contains a chemical called erucic acid that has toxic effects on your heart and other organs.

2. It can cause allergic reactions

In some people, jojoba oil can cause allergic reactions. This is particularly true for those who have a history of skin reactions. The allergy symptoms may include hives, itching, and swelling on your face, tongue, or throat.

3. You may experience skin rashes

You may experience rashes, redness, and skin irritation. It is rarely reported but in case you do experience these symptoms, stop using the oil immediately.

Jojoba oil is safe and effective for most people! It is, however, important to know everything about an ingredient you plan on including in your skincare routine.
