We’ve all heard about the benefits of eating walnuts. After all, they are rich in protein, omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins E and B. They’re particularly credited with the ability to enhance brain health, leading to better memory and improved focus. So, including walnuts in your diet is extremely important but did you know that this brain-shaped nut can work wonders for your skin as well?

Due to their richness in essential nutrients and vitamins, walnuts can ensure you steer clear of skin issues like dryness, acne and early signs of ageing. Hence, applying it to your skin topically and making it a regular feature of your skincare routine will add a natural glow up to your face.

Here are 3 easy ways of adding walnuts to your beauty routine:

1. Walnut face mask

If you’re looking for a moisturising face mask, look no further than this honey, walnut and besan face mask recipe! Walnut is extremely moisturising and honey, a humectant, will help the moisture get locked into the skin. In addition, besan is a great cleanser that is known to remove dirt and dead cells from the skin surface.

To make the face mask, soak 2 to 3 walnuts in water for a night. Then, break them down using a blender or mortar and pestle. Now, add 2 teaspoons of water and 1 teaspoon of besan to the walnuts. Mix the ingredients together till a paste is formed. You can add water to it to fix the consistency.

Apply the face mask to your skin and keep it on for 20 minutes before washing it off with lukewarm water.

2. Walnut face scrub

You need to exfoliate your skin at least once a week to remove dead skin cells and keep your pores clean. Not only will it add glow to your face but also keep acne at bay. Walnuts are gentle on the skin but at the same time, can effectively exfoliate your skin. Another ingredient you should add to walnuts is olive oil for its antibacterial and moisturising properties. This ensures the exfoliation doesn’t leave your skin feeling dry.

To make this face mask, break down 2 to 3 walnuts and mix them with olive oil.

Now, start rubbing this face scrub on your skin gently. Make sure you cover the forehead, cheeks, nose and chin. Do this for 10 to 15 minutes before washing your face with lukewarm water.

3. Walnut face oil

Face oils are gaining popularity given their benefit for dermal health. Out of the multiple varieties available, walnut oil is the most powerful one. It contains vitamin E and antioxidants, both components that help fight damage to the skin and fight off the action of free radicals. Regular usage will keep the skin moisturised, delay the appearance of fine lines and reduce instances of breakouts.

Walnut oil is readily available in the market and is super easy to add to your daily skincare routine. Add 5 to 6 drops to your moisturiser at night and apply it all over your face. Do keep in mind that you should avoid applying too much of it all at once. That could lead to oiliness and blocked pores.

So, ladies, add walnuts to your skincare routine for moisturised and glowing skin!
