Come winter, our hair shaft undergoes dehydration due to the dry, chilly weather, and hence loses its strength, thus causing increased seasonal hair fall. Also, there is scaling and flakiness on the surface of the scalp. Excessive and prolonged oil application causes deposits of unwanted skin debris on the scalp, and also accumulation of environmental dust.

Can hair fall lead to hair loss

Hair loss implies balding or ‘androgenetic alopecia’. It denotes excessive visibility of the scalp due to thinning of hair due to the effects of hormones (like Dihydrotestosterone). Hair loss usually occurs in a particular pattern (affecting the vertex & fronto-parietal scalp), hence it is also called as ‘patterned alopecia’

According to Ayurveda, an imbalance in the body metabolism can result in hair fall and hair loss. But natural hair remedies can help. Here are some to arrest your hair fall:

1. Pumpkin seed oil

Take about 100 grams of pumpkin seed powder. Warm it in 200ml of mustard oil, and add to it about 100gm of amla. Let it cool down at room temperature. Your hair fall arresting potion is ready to be used.

2. Coconut lemon hair paste

Mix 50 ml of virgin cold-pressed coconut oil, 50ml of sesame oil, and 25ml of castor oil. Gently warm it for about 2 to 3 mins. Add to it 15 grams of garlic paste, 15 grams of ginger paste and 2 tsp of lemon juice. Let it cool down at room temperature. You may use this as a hair stimulating paste for about a couple of hours, and then wash it off.

3. Hair growth stimulating red chilli and cinnamon powder oil

Mix 50 grams of clove powder, 50 grams of cinnamon powder, and 15 grams of red chilli powder in 100ml of warm virgin coconut oil. Massage it on the areas where there is balding, and keep it overnight. You may wash it off the next morning with a gentle hair shampoo.
