Hair loss is a fairly common issue but also one that leads to frustration. After all, hair loss soon leads to thinning of the hair and may even cause bald spots to appear. It can really affect a person’s confidence and cause anxiety over what the reason for hair fall could be. Speaking of causes, one of the most common happens to be a condition known as telogen effluvium.

To understand what telogen effluvium is, we need to first understand how hair growth works. Our hair goes through an active phase which is basically the growth phase and eventually enters the resting phase which is known as telogen. Due to this scalp condition, the new hairs tend to enter the resting phase too soon and within a matter of months, these hairs fall out. It is a condition that is mostly attributed to stress and is usually reversible.

In such a situation, it becomes obvious that we need to look for a solution to restore the health of our hair follicles. Turns out, you don’t need expensive treatments or a fancy shampoo for it! All you need is kalonji, or black cumin. In India, kalonji or black cumin has been used since time immemorial to treat hair loss. Mostly used in its oil form, black cumin is believed to not just stop hair fall but also bring about the growth of new hair!

What had been a ghar ka nuskha till now is actually backed by science!

Benefits of black cumin for hair

A new study published in the Journal of Cosmetics, Dermatological Sciences and Applications swears by the benefits of black cumin for hair. As a part of the study, 20 people with the condition were recruited. Out of these, 10 people were treated with a scalp lotion containing 0.5 per cent black cumin daily for a period of three months. By the end of the study, it was found that the 10 patients who applied the black cumin-based lotion benefited more as compared to the other 10 who were given a placebo!

The experts who conducted this study noted that black cumin was able to reduce the inflammation which is associated with telogen effluvium. They believe this could be the prime reason behind the black cumin lotion proving to be an effective solution for hair loss.
