You must resist the urge to wash your curls every other day and follow these quick DIY steps to refresh curls and get the bounce back into each ringlet on a ‘No-wash’ day!

Yes, you will still need to shampoo eventually, which is of utmost importance. Shampooing is not the enemy—but over-shampooing is, especially, when there are various ways to refresh curls without washing them. Additionally, it is important to know when your curls need a refresh? When curls lack volume and liveliness, they usually need a refresh

Health Shots spoke to Yuba Khan, hair expert and Co-founder of Manetain store, who listed many interesting ways to refresh curls without the need of washing them.

Quick DIY steps to refresh curls:

1. Use a leave-in conditioner

One effective way to keep your curls fresh is using leave-in conditioner onto the wet hair. Leave-in conditioner can keep your old curls in place and help in styling as well.

If your hair has fewer tangles and is just a little limp, you can use a spray bottle with a moderate amount of water and sprinkle it evenly on your hair too. Add a pea size amount of your favorite leave-in conditioner, curl cream, or gel. This mixture of conditioner and water can refresh dry and frizzy curls. Khan suggests that a spray of water is especially essential if you add a lot of styling products to your hair. Plus, if your next-day curls still have yesterday’s curl cream throughout, then the products you used from your previous wash day can be reactivated by just spraying water.”

2. Use a curl reactivating spray

You can use curl reactivating spray as they don’t leave the curls crunchy and need just a few sprays to bring hair back to life. You may use a curl texturising spray and crunch and plop your hair to refresh curls.

3. Finger coil them

Transitioning curls can have an even harder time looking springy, so doing finger coils can help too. “Apply your favorite styler or spray water to flat curls and twirl each strand around a finger until it appears twisted. Then scrunch your curls and let them air dry. Many swear by this method to refresh curls.” says Khan.

If a softer hold is more your style, refresh using a styling cream. Similar to using a hair gel, apply the styling cream to each individual curl that needs to be smoothed and scrunched.

4. Use a hair gel

Hair gel can provide a major hold for old curls that need style longevity. Spritz the area with water or a leave-in conditioner first, then apply a small amount of styling gel to each curl. Scrunch curls well and let air dry, or use a diffuser on the cool setting for faster results.

5. Sprinkle dry shampoo

To refresh curls, dry shampoo can also work perfectly enough. It helps to keep your hair going for more than a day or two or between washes.

6. Diffuse your hair

Lastly, diffuse your hair when done with the basic water spray or product application. It should take no more than 5 minutes and drying your damp curls will take another 10 minutes, and you are all done. You can finish off with smoothing or applying 2 or 3 drops of hydrating oil on to your hair length to ensure you don’t get frizzy or dry curls.
