Have you always wondered how Bollywood beauties and international celebs are always seen with big, voluminous hair? Well, we did too! If looking at big clumps of hair swaying with the wind has made your heart sing ‘ude jab jab zulfein teri’, we have some tips that can help you out too. This 5-step guide will help you to increase the volume of the hair in the easiest way!

You can make your hair look poufy and big by inculcating some hair care steps into your regular routine. Your flat-looking mane will get a classy upgrade with few simple switches in your hair wash and care process.

Dr Monica Kapoor, a celebrity cosmetologist and Director at FLAWLESS Cosmetics Clinics spoke to HealthShots about simple ways one can improve the texture of the hair and get volume in them.

Here are 5 ways to increase the volume of the hair:

1. Switch to a volumizing shampoo

To get the voluminous hair, you have got to start by swapping your old shampoo with a volume-enhancing one that is formulated using the perfect combination of gentle cleansing agents mixed with biotin and wheat protein that give oodles of volume to hair and also prevent hair breakage.

2. Put your hair upside down when you blow dry

If you apply the normal method of blow drying the hair, you won’t get bouncy hair. Having your hair upside down while you blow dry is the best no-product tip to see quick results. This trick has to be the quickest way to make the hair appear fuller and voluminous. For this, instead of blow drying your tresses from the top to bottom, you need to bend forward and flip your hair ahead and then blow-dry it upside down. “While doing this, you tease your hair, resulting in it raising from the roots, thus making it appear thicker and voluminous.” adds Dr Kapoor.

3. Do not shampoo every day

Most people wonder how many days they should shampoo their hair so as to not damage it. While there is no clear formula, shampooing every day is very harmful for the volume of your hair. Hence, make sure to not apply shampoo to the hair every day. The lesser your hair reacts with chemicals, the better.

4. Use dry shampoos

Besides being a saviour for your tresses in between washes, dry shampoo can also help increase the volume of the hair. Apply a good dry shampoo onto the roots of the mane from 8-12 inches away. Then gently massage it onto your scalp gently to spread it evenly. Dry shampoo ends up soaking the excess oil from the scalp, making the hair look voluminous.

5. Try the hot towel therapy

After oiling and massaging your mane, use a hot towel to steam your hair. This ensures the oil reaches your roots and helps lock the moisture there. Soak a towel in hot water, squeeze out the excess to make sure it’s not dripping wet and wrap your hair in it. Repeat these steps a few times and make sure your hair is wrapped and steamed for at least half an hour.

Remember, these steps only work if you already have a good amount of hair on your head but they are falling flat. If your hair is sparse, do not follow the same routine. Try to repair the damage first and reverse your hair fall.
Styling your hair is not one size fits all. Try whatever suits you best. Hope this hair care routine makes your hair look ‘va va voluminous’!
