Workout is a basic lifestyle practice that most of us follow. It has a positive impact on our physical and mental wellbeing. But as an active person, working out every day and breaking a sweat, the last thing you should have to worry about is your hair! Have you ever considered how it affects your hair? Well, the salt contained in our sweat is a known cause of hair dryness and damage, making them greasy.
“Sweating during a workout in combination with heat can make working out tedious and also play havoc on the health of our hair and its health,” says Dr Ajay Rana, a renowned dermatologist and aesthetic physician.
When it comes to the solution, most people may switch to washing hair daily, but that’s not a good idea at all. Dr Rana says, “There is always a dilemma of washing the hair every day to get rid of sweat and dirt, as dealing with greasy, sweaty, messy hair is not worth it. Washing your hair every day dries out the scalp, strips the hair of its natural oils, and accelerates hair fall two-fold.” So what’s the solution?
Well, people tend to put a lot of emphasis on their post-workout routine, but did you know that your pre-workout routine can be just as important? Today, we are sharing pre and post workout hair care tips.
Dry shampoo is best to use before a workout. An hour before work out just put some dry shampoo in your hair and work it into your scalp with your fingers thoroughly.
Always keep your hair fresh for the workout session and find a hairstyle that works with the workout plans. For relaxation exercises, choose a loose bun to keep the meditating state comfortable. For cardio, try something more secure, like a braid or ponytail could work to keep the hair away from the face.
It’s important to tie the hair in a neat style, away from the face for healthy hair. Use hair accessories and headgears like sweatbands, scrunchy clips, pins and hairbands to tame flyaways caused by humidity that can cause hair infection.
Use hair perfumes and shine spray before the workout. Some traditional fragrance techniques are loaded with alcohol, which can cause dryness if applied to hair. Hair perfumes scent the tresses, so they are free from any drying ingredients. Hair perfumes give the hair a boost of fragrance and leave it smelling fresh when you need it the most. Shine spray gives the hair a lightweight polish, as well as long-lasting smoothness.
Once after a workout session, the first thing to do is open the hair and let it dry naturally. Don’t blow dry it to get the last bit of grease and sweat off from the scalp.
Our hair care after workout sessions is key to refreshing the strands. Wash your hair after the workout using a gentle, purifying shampoo. It helps to cleanse hair, absorb excess sweat and oil. This helps to remove all sweat, grime, and dirt from the hair and scalp. Shampoo hair twice to ensure thorough cleansing.
During washing your hair after a workout, the temperature of the water should not be too hot or cold. Maintain between lukewarm to cool. Always use a conditioner after the shampoo. Keep the conditioner on the hair for 3-5 minutes after that rinse it with cold water.
Add some serum to the ends of the hair post workout to restore the shine and reduce the frizz.
Post workout, our hair also needs TLC. Untie your hair and use ribbon hair ties or spiraled ties to reduce the chance of hair breakages and prevent dents and kinks.
We hope that these tips will help you combat hair problems caused due to your daily workout routine!
