Fed up with frizzy hair? Then this piece is what you’ve been looking for. That’s because we have finally got a solution to straighten your hair without any heat styling tools or chemical hair treatments. All you have to do is head to your kitchen, and look for products that celebrity dermatologist and aesthetic physician, Dr Ajay Rana is going to recommend to you.

A lot of people use straightening irons or chemical products to make their hair poker straight. Repeated straightening with heat or chemicals weakens the hair, leading to breakage and hair loss.

“Any kind of chemical-ridden external treatments can lead to extensive hair damage, and hair straightening is no exception. As you step out, the sun’s UV rays damage your hair even more. The chemicals in the hair react adversely when exposed to the harsh rays of the sun,” he says.

Here are nine kitchen ingredients that will come in handy to straighten your hair:
1. Milk and honey

Our hair is made up of a protein called keratin. Protein in milk is beneficial, in terms of adding strength and body. Milk also contains fat, which helps to soften and smoothen the hair. Honey is a natural moisturiser that adds sheen to your tresses.

Here’s how to use it – Take one tablespoon of honey, and mix it with milk to soften and straighten the hair. The combination can also be put in a spray bottle. Spray the hair with this solution after shampoo, leave it on for two minutes, and rinse with plain water.

2. Banana

Bananas have great hair softening properties. They can be great for dry and frizzy hair too. Not only do they help with natural hair straightening, but also provide deep nourishment for chemically treated hair.

Here’s how to use it – Take two overripe bananas, mash them thoroughly with the help of a fork and combine two tablespoons each of honey, yogurt and olive oil with the mashed bananas. Blend it to make a fine paste. Apply this hair mask evenly on your hair, and to avoid it from getting messy, wrap your hair with a shower cap. Keep it for half an hour. All the ingredients are great food for your weak and undernourished hair, and will make your hair healthy, shiny, and also straight.

3. Olive oil and eggs

The chemical structure of the naturally occurring oil in the body is similar to olive oil. That is why it helps to restore a healthy balance. Olive oil contains hydroxytyrosol and vitamin E, both of which are helpful in nourishing the hair. Eggs contain vitamins and minerals, along with fatty acids, which is very good for your hair and makes it straight.

Here’s how to use it – Mix two eggs with olive oil. Apply on your hair, and leave it on for 20 minutes, before washing.

4. Multani mitti pack

Multani mitti not only imparts a glow to the skin, but also helps in straightening the hair.

Here’s how to use it – Combine one egg white and two tablespoons of rice flour to a cup full of multani mitti. Add the required amount of water to the paste to get a consistency that will stay on the hair, not too runny, just right. Apply it and leave it for half an hour. After 30 minutes, comb the hair gently. Now reapply this paste and then run a comb through the hair. Repeat this process a couple of times. Finally, wash it off. This is one of the most effective packs to tame overly frizzy hair.

5. Rice flour, fuller’s earth, and egg white

Make a hair mask with these ingredients, and use it once a week. It not only cleanses, but straightens the hair and adds volume.

Here’s how to use it– One egg white should be added to one-quarter cup rice flour and one cup fuller’s earth (kind of clay). Apply the paste, comb your hair, and leave it on for an hour. Wash it off with a good shampoo.

6. Aloe vera

Aloe vera contains several essential properties that promote healthy hair growth, and impacts the texture of your hair, making it smooth and soft. Also, aloe vera gel easily permeates into the hair strands, and maintains the moisture level of the scalp. Due to its moisturising properties, it can help to straighten your hair naturally.

Here’s how to use it – Blend half cup each of aloe vera gel and warm olive oil. Also, you can mix in six drops each of rosemary oil and sandalwood oil. Massage the mixture into the hair and scalp, allowing it to penetrate through your hair strands. Cover your hair with a shower cap and leave it on for about one to two hours. Wash off the pack with a mild shampoo, following it up with a conditioner.

7. Coconut milk and lemon Juice

Coconut milk nourishes and softens the hair. It contains saturated fats that provide emollients. It also contains acids that help to restore the acid-alkaline balance of the scalp.

Here’s how to use it – Mix lemon juice with fresh coconut milk. Lemon juice has a cleansing and straightening effect, and helps add lustre to the hair.

8. Soybean Oil

Applying soybean oil on the scalp can enhance the straight look of the hair, and is also said to be one of the best natural methods for permanent hair straightening.

Here’s how to use it – Take one tablespoon of soybean oil and two tablespoons of castor oil, then combine them well. Heat the mixture properly, and apply it to the scalp. This helps to act as a binder for the hair from root to tip. It works wonderfully well, when it is followed up with a mild shampoo.

9. Coconut milk and lemon juice

Add coconut milk with lemon juice. This method is helpful not only to straighten the hair, but also give it an enviable shine.

Here’s how to use it – Take a cup of coconut milk. Add two tablespoons of lemon juice to it. Keep the mixture in a refrigerator for about 30 minutes. It will coagulate into a runny paste like consistency. Once done, blend it well and apply on your hair from root to scalp. Take a hot towel and wrap it around your hair. Leave the towel for a good five mins. Then, wash it off with the help of a mild shampoo. Continue to do this for about four weeks, three times a week to get the desired results.

“Different types of ingredients take different amounts of time to absorb on the scalp. It totally depends on the quality and volume of the hair,” concludes Dr Rana.

So for the sake of your mane, throw away those hair-damaging gadgets right away and go natural.
