The world of beauty is filled with oils that can transform the health of your mane. Yes, we are talking about the superpowers of essential oils, and guess what? They work like magic to reduce hair fall. 

Even a slight change in season can cause an array of hair-related problems like  dandruff, thinning of hair, scalp issues, and split ends. Sigh! But massaging your scalp with essential oils can enhance the health of the hair. 

That’s because they are made using the extracts of natural ingredients such as flowers, leaves and spices. These oils do not just benefit your hair but also help to reduce stress, alleviate pain as well as fight skin infections. 

Here’s a list of some essential oils and how you can use them:
1. Rosemary oil

Rosemary essential oil is the perfect choice to improve the thickness of your hair. It is loaded with antioxidants that work to put an end to hair thinning and premature graying of hair. It promotes blood circulation and stimulates hair follicles that promote hair growth.

“It also helps to restore tissue in the scalp and is used in various hair growth treatments. It has many anti-inflammatory properties that help to thicken hair,” says renowned dermatologist, Dr Ajay Rana.

Here’s how you can use it:

Take 10 drops of rosemary oil and mix three tablespoons of warm olive oil to it. Next, massage your hair and scalp and wrap a hot towel on my head. Let it stay for 30 minutes, after which wash it with a mild shampoo.

2. Cedarwood oil

It has many antifungal and antibacterial properties that stimulate the scalp and increase circulation, thus reducing a dry or flaky scalp, as well as brittle hair. It balances the oil-producing glands in the scalp, which can lead to healthier strands.

Here’s how you can use it:

“Take two drops of cedarwood oil and a teaspoon of coconut oil, mix it properly to make a hydrating and stimulating hair mask. Apply this mask and massage into your hair and scalp. Let it sit on the scalp for 30 minutes, and then wash it out,” recommends Dr Rana.

3. Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil is known for its ability to heal breakouts, but it can also work to make your hair healthier. It has a powerful cleansing, antibacterial, and antimicrobial properties that help to remove dandruff.

Here’s how you can use it:

Mix a few drops of tea tree essential oil to your shampoo and conditioner, and use this as part of your regular hair care regime. Mix 2-3 drops of tea tree essential oil to a carrier oil, and massage it into your scalp. Leave it on for 5-10 minutes, and rinse it off with a mild shampoo.

4. Peppermint oil

This oil has cooling properties, and has a deep cleansing action on the scalp that helps to open clogged pores that are a result of product build-up and dirt. Peppermint oil helps to stimulate the scalp and hair follicles, which can help with increasing dermal thickness, follicle number, and follicle depth.

Here’s how you can use it:

Take five drops of peppermint oil with two tablespoons of warm coconut oil and massage into the hair. Wait for at least 15-20 minutes, before washing it with a cleansing shampoo.

5. Thyme oil

Thyme oil is a nutrient-rich oil containing flavonoids and antioxidants, and has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. It reduces inflammation on the scalp and hair follicles, helping to make the scalp healthier than ever.

Here’s how you can use it:

Mix two drops of thyme oil with five drops of lavender oil and two tablespoons of olive oil. Next, massage your hair and wash it after 15-20 minutes.

6. Lavender oil

It has antimicrobial properties that help to get rid of infections and dandruff from the scalp. Lavender oil also soothes the scalp to fight dry skin and hair, leaving your tresses looking smooth and silky.

Mix 2-3 drops of lavender oil with coconut oil. Apply the mixture onto the hair, and leave it on for at least 5-10 minutes. This will help to strengthen the hair follicles. Add a few drops of lavender oil to hair care products like shampoo and conditioner to make your hair healthier.

7. Lemongrass oil

It can strengthen the hair follicles and remove dandruff. That’s because lemongrass oil contains astringent properties that can help to keep the hair clean in between washes. It has natural healing properties that can soothe an itchy and irritated scalp by giving it a thorough cleanse.

Here’s how you can use it:

Take a few drops of lemongrass oil and massage your hair and scalp during a shower. Let it soak in for two-three minutes and rinse it out with cold water.

8. Clary sage oil

It makes the hair smooth and frizz-free. Clary sage oil also helps people who are dealing with premature balding. It regulates oil production and fights common scalp problems that can be used on both dry and oily scalps.

Mix three drops of clary sage oil with any conditioner, or carrier oil. Wait for two minutes, and then rinse it out.
