There’s nothing more frustrating than washing your hair after every workout. We understand it’s hygienic to remove all the sweat and grime after an intense session, but if you’re a fitness fanatic, you end up washing your hair after every single day. Although getting your daily fill of endorphins is fun, washing your hair really isn’t.  Plus it isn’t as healthy too (you’ll find out soon).

That’s exactly why we’ve got some great hair hacks to help you keep your hair grease-free when you work out. So flex those muscles every day, without worrying about your hair. Sounds like a plan, doesn’t it?

1. Turn to dry shampoo BEFORE your workout
Here’s a hair hack we bet you didn’t see coming. You see, most people end up spraying generous amounts of dry shampoo post a workout, but that’s not a great idea! Instead, switch your pattern, and use the product prior to your workout. This is because the dry shampoo keeps your scalp dry and free from grease, even if you have an intense HIIT session planned.

“Even if you use dry shampoo every day, try and wash your hair the normal way, every alternate day,” says Atif, a hairstylist with Bella Madonna Salon, Gurgaon.

2. Don’t let your hair fall on your face
Of course, we all want to look super sexy when we workout, but keep your hair out of the picture please! You might think it’s harmless, but when you leave your hair open, or even tie it tight into a ponytail—your tresses cry for help. What’s more, your hair could lead to acne and irritation, and that’s the last thing you want!

“Tie your hair in a loose braid or pin it properly, so that your hair stays in place. When you braid your hair, try and use a silk band or scrunchie, so that you don’t suffer from hair breakage. It’s simple and absolutely doable,” he says.

3. Avoid working out when you have wet hair
You might be super tempted to workout right after washing your hair, but DON’T! Because ladies it’s going to cause your tresses a whole lot of harm! When you exercise with wet hair, sweat and moisture get trapped in your scalp, and things can get quite messy. Some people think wearing a cap or other headgear is the best form of protection, but again it’s a huge no-no.

If you continue working out with wet hair, you might also end up with scalp irritation and dandruff.

4. Afternoon sun is not fun
The weather is breezy, but there’s still some afternoon sun peeking behind the clouds. You think it’s a great idea to step out and flex those muscles. Well ladies, it’s a bad idea for your hair. This is because the afternoon sun can be harsh, and can cause your hair to become greasy and frizzy.

In case you love to work out outdoors, whether it’s morning or evening, slather on sunscreen, and also spray some hair mist with UV protection.

5. Don’t wash your hair every single day
The last of them hair hacks, but the most important one! While you may want to wash your hair every day after you workout, it isn’t recommended. This is because you might end up with dry and frizzy hair. Instead, try and wash your hair every alternate day, but with a sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner.

“Also try and use a smoothing serum after every wash, it’s an important part of your hair care routine,” Atif advises.

So ladies, try these amazing hair hacks before your next workout, and keep greasy hair far from your sight!
